I'm planning on using a pneumatic ejector pump to transfer water from a lower-level sump tank to a higher-level reservoir as part of an indoor recirculating drip aquaponics system.
I'm using this instead of a standard water pump because I want to be able to pump dirt, debris, daphnia, scuds, etc through the system without clogging the pump or killing scuds and daphnia.
This pump was designed to sit outside of the sump tank, water is pulled into the pump from the sump via a check-valve and siphon. It is built out of clear components so the operation of the air-siphon and check valve can be observed.
The container and check valve were purchased on Amazon, the rest of the parts I had laying around. I had to remove the spring from the check valve.
The water depth in the sump is only about 12". The size and scale of this build is sufficient for my needs, but a larger air pump and container could move significantly more water, check out the build video from jlocke8 for construction of a larger design: • How To Build A Pneumat...
