Thanks for this review. I have a circa-1998 Cannondale F1000 Headshok hardtail that I bought new with the idea of building an all-road touring bike. Then kids came along and sidetracked that plan for 20 years. This looks like a great replacement for my Moxey suspension post. I really like that the stiffness is tunable with air pressur

I don’t have much experience with dropper posts. I’m more of a gravel enthusiast and enjoy carbon set posts. I must say the PNW coast does what it says. I have one installed on my VO Neutrino (internal) and has been great! I’m $2+ and is set to a little over 270 psi. No back strain as per rigid seat posts If you’re curious this a great one to start with. I like punk music too…

@@PunkUncleShow few years ago I had SR Suntour NCX suspension seatpost, it was really quality made and simply to set up and use. Feeling in ride was really amazing and you can set it to be softer or harder depending on your needs. Now I am in search for dropper and this model is perfect blend of suspension sestpost and dropper. Now I must find out if my frame can take inside routed, external or half internal and half external, or to drill it. Must carefully figure it out. Drilling is last option, but I would like to have my bike tidy and clean with minimum of flapping cables

One complaint I’ve had with PNW externally activated droppers is that the activation head cannot be rotated from this 10 o’clock position. This interferes with the QR on my Ibis, which can’t be rotated either. Does this suspension dropper also have this issue?
@PunkUncleShow

I honestly don’t know as my only hands-on expos with the IR option. I wonder, though, if you used this post, assuming it has less drop than what you tried before, if it might put that head a little higher so it wouldn’t interfere with your qr seat clamp? Maybe.

Watch some videos. You might want to try doing it yourself. Saves money and it feels good to learn how to work on your own bike. I still make mistakes all the time when I work on my bikes, but every experience makes you a better mechanic. Also, many times it costs less to buy the proper tools for the job than to pay someone else to do it.

Would you know the differences between the cascade, pine and coast? I have a 29er hard tail I was thinking of trying one of these out. Thank you!
@PunkUncleShow
3 жыл бұрын
Most importantly, the Coast, that I reviewed, has 40mm of suspension. It comes in multiple diameters as well. The Cascade is external routing only. The Pine is 27.2 mm and intended for gravel bikes, I believe. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching 🤘🏼🤘🏼
@Zeroplanetz
3 жыл бұрын
@@PunkUncleShow yea I need a external routing one. Just wasn’t sure what all the differences were. I later saw that the pine was for smaller tubes. I guess other than sizing the cascade and coast are about the same then?
@PunkUncleShow
3 жыл бұрын
The Coast is the only one that has active suspension that actually helps smooth out the ride, so it’s really geared towards hard tails. Also, the Coast is available in both internal and external routing options.
@Zeroplanetz

@@Zeroplanetz No problem. I'd say the Cascade is specifically targeted at older mountain bikes in general, that don't have internal routing options.

I wonder how this would behave if the suspension pressure is set below the manufacturer recommended 200 psi, let's say for a lighter rider like a 100 lb kid? Wondering about the reason for the 200 psi minimum recommendation (affects seat raising force/speed perhaps?)

As a dropper post, how would you rate it?
@PunkUncleShow
3 жыл бұрын
It’s solid. Operation is really smooth. Obviously, I don’t have any “real” seat time on it, because the bike is too small for me, but I’ve ridden around on it quite a bit while tuning it and I’ve been really impressed. So much so that I’m putting one of their other posts on my new build as well.

would you use this dropper post on your own full-suspension MTB, or something different? recommendations?
@PunkUncleShow
3 жыл бұрын
It could be done. The only drawback for me personally would be that on my full suspension bikes, I’m looking for more drop than 125mm. I’m putting a 170mm PNW Rainier post on the Evil Following for example.

If it's a dropper post with the ability to "drop on descents" then the "$179" post would not work without the $50 thumb lever. Kinda unethical to keep referring to "$179" or implying it's a $179 conversion.
@PunkUncleShow
3 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry you feel that way, Karen. Since you're throwing accusations around, let's see if we can clear up some of the confusion. A. In this review specifically, I replaced the dropper post that came with the bike. The entire point was to see if a suspension post would smooth out the ride, specifically the impacts coming through the saddle. For the purposes of this review and video, it was indeed a $179 upgrade, because the bike already had a dropper and remote, which worked just fine when switching out the post. Do you understand what I'm saying? It was LITERALLY A $179 UPGRADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! B. Of course I mentioned other applications and the fact that PNW makes this post with both internal and external routing options. That means that anyone with a bike that wasn't specifically made to accommodate a dropper would likely be able to adapt one of these. If you have a bike that wasn't fit with a dropper prior, then yes, you would also have to invest in a remote lever. It would not, however, have to be the PNW lever. The point is, some buyers would need to add a remote while others wouldn't. Is that unethical or misleading? I don't think so. I believe most mountain bikers, especially those that are taking the time to watch reviews of specific seat posts, are fully aware that virtually none of the posts on the market are sold with the remote lever. I only ever refer to the price of the post being $179. I never said that every conversion scenario one might possibly have would cost a mere $179. I really hope that provides clarity. If nothing else, it should free you up to go back to writing negative Yelp reviews and turning your neighbors into the HOA for infractions.

Since you're telling people there's a single product they can buy that will make any rigid bike more comfortable (add 40mm suspension), AND more capable (ADD dropper), then you're talking to people without a dropper post (or thumb lever), punk. Good review. Great product. Misleading price.
