@@thecocoacouch Well believe you me, I'll be making a Kung Fu Panda 5! Lord Shen returns as the villain. Yes, I know he got a cannon dropped on him, but I could think of a way he could've survived. I chose Shen as the villain because he's said to be the main antagonist of the whole franchise.

So, in reference to the whole "If I'm not the Dragon Warrior, then who am I?" from the last movie, the thing that I've come to realize about that is something that... hit me like a freight train here recently in my own personal life. When he asked that question, and up through most of this movie, up until he realizes that he can teach the pandas to be their best selves, he sees himself through a lens of transactional, external value. It is down to how well he does at being what others need him to be, in the ways that they expect him to be that. His lightbulb moment comes when he realizes that it isn't about the transactional value set by others, or about making others be what he believes they need to be. It is about being his best, whole self, and helping others to be their best, whole selves. Realizing that value doesn't come from meeting the expectations and needs of others, but by simply being as... 'you' as possible, and showing people that being themselves has value to others in its own right. Where that hits very powerfully for me is that I've had to come face to face with the fact that the person I married valued me on a transactional level, where they got to set the terms of what things I did that brought value into the household. If I couldn't keep up with those things, then it was a black mark on my fundamental value as a partner. As the stress of that loss of value... and loss of respect ate into me, it made it harder and harder for me to keep up with her expectations, causing a negative feedback loop. I've had to come to understand that a relationship like that is truly hollow, and that investing my energy into that kind of a relationship is a road to self destruction. So, for the time being, we've agreed to simply be roommates, until our daughter finishes high school. It has, interestingly, really allowed me to start reconnecting with people I'd lost touch with... people who never lost sight of the value that I had brought to them simply by being myself. People my wife had... kind of pushed me to step away from. It has been wonderful reconnecting with them, and reconnecting with myself. Heck, last year for National Novel Writing Month, I wrote a whole series of stories where I rebuilt old characters who... represented core elements of myself from scratch. On top of that, I've been concerning myself less with bringing those who don't value me along with me in the experiences that I love. I have family in the area that I'm able to do things like go to plays and concerts with, and that has been... wonderful and amazing to be with people who take joy in those kinds of things, even as I move on emotionally from the people who had such narrow views of the value that I could bring to them. I realized that when I was commenting on another reaction video for this movie, and it really took a movie that I loved... and made it a movie that meant so much more to me. So, who am I? I am all of the chaotic, jumbled, disorganized, beautiful parts of myself, all together. Without all of them, I am none of them. And anyone that I'm going to keep in my life for the long term has to value me for who I am. Not what I do for them.

Nah, Oogway did betray Kai because they used to be warlords. Conquering and taking comes with the territory. But I’m this context, he did it for the right reasons. Stopping Kai was just the right thing to do. Oogway changed while learning from the pandas and had a change of heart. He couldn’t let Kai steal the chi of people. That power in the hands of a power hungry warlord is a recipe for disaster.
@thecocoacouch

I mean if you wanna go by the definition then they betrayed each other. But Kai did it first since Kai betrayed Oogways trust that he was inherently good and then ofc Oogway betrayed Kai’s trust thatd he’d just follow along in whatever he was gonna do.

@@thecocoacouch Just as a technicality. The idea of a good warlord is very amusing, but in all I’m glad how Oogway turned out and did what he did for everyone’s sake. No one I think faults him for banishing Kai. Just important to understand the why of it.
@novastarburst3939

That's how I see it. Oogway said that the pandas taught him how to give, but they never mentionned Kai. Oogway is the one who saw the light because someone show it to him. If Kai was the one healed, he'd probably turned the same way as none was truly evil, they were just warlords doing what a warlord usually do. Both were like kids who needed to be taught, but only one received attention and the result is here.

Hey, wonderful reaction here! I somehow feel that Chi isn't perhaps the same Chi we imagine, but in the movie it represents love. Po has managed to show everyone how to love and be loved. Perhaps the reason why Kai couldn't take Po's chi was that Kai was filled with so much hatred and anger, that he couldn't possibly comprehend all of POs and everyone's love, emotionally and physically, thereby love destroyed his hatred. In the end, the villagers haven't learnt a secret weapon in Chi, but unlocked what was already inside them, since everyone is capable of showing and giving love. I think the movies really show Pos character progression, in the first movie he struggled with his identity, knowing oneself, but filled with self doubt. In the second he learnt to love himself out of a tragedy in his past. In the third movie he became a teacher of love, passing on the torch of what he learnt previously. Ultimately everyone has the ability to be the dragon warrior provided they have humility and compassion. A wonderful movie series and sits a top my shelf along side Toy Story 3 as one of the best animated movies ever. 😊

The thing is, the fandom said that Kai did take chi to protect Oogway. It fits with what Mr Ping said. We do the wrong things for the right reasons. Also notice that Kai still loves Oogway (he hangs him around his neck and always talks to him and reached out for his amulet when he was about to blow up). Another thing is how the villains evolve: Tai Lung - Very strong, not as smart as the other two, more brute strength Lord Shen - Genius level intelligence, not very strong, uses mind games General Kai - BOTH a very strong fighter and an evil genius. He took out the masters like it was nothing, but invented chi stealing and manipulated Shifu by making him send Crane to analyse Shifu's connection to Oogway (thats how he used the amulet against him in battle).

Interesting thoughts man. I guess the example Ping made in relation to parenthood doesn’t exactly apply to Kai in my opinion. I can see it for sure, I just feel like making Kai’s decision to take everyone’s Chi as an action of love is giving him too much credit? He loved Oogway for sure no doubt, but I personally don’t think his decision to steal chi was anything more than just being power hungry, and that’s okay in my opinion, simple motivations are often the most interesting.

Tai Lung was strategic. Not just using his brute strength entirely like a dumb warrior. He was also smart. Like how he planned his escape and think quickly. He wouldn't be able to escape the prison like that without thinking quickly. Training for the dragon warrior role, he MUST have a high level of thinking and intelligence for such role. Maybe he's not as smart as Shen, yes i'm sure of that, but he's not just using his brute strength. One of the proof is that when he was falling while trying to escape before climbing back up with those sharp rocks falling off. He thought, planned and acted quickly, climbing on those rocks. Even the camera zoomed to the dynamites, it was only for seconds that he climbed back up and went for the dynamites and literally blasted his way out.

Also, as for Tai Lung's final battle with Po, after seeing the scroll being blank, only his reflection (he prob didnt notice the meaning since he was too focused on what was being written on it) i get from that moment on, he completely lost it. Until his focus and his strategy was.. scattered. He did not think straight and it drove him CRAZY. All those years of training and training, his hopes were shattered to pieces. For him to completely lost it after seeing that kind of stuff really tells us how hardworking he'd been in his younger years. When he was still training. We only hear from him that he cracked his bones, but maybe he didn't tell his full training. Maybe it was torturing, pain and sweat, non-stop, just to become the dragon warrior. But before stealing the scroll, his hopes were still there. He thought that he had the chance to steal the scroll and become the true dragon warrior. That time he was still thinking straight. Look how he lifted the big rock and threw it to Shifu. I dont think he meant it to hurt him, he KNEW Shifu would easily punch through that. So maybe he did that as a distraction so that it gives him the chance to strike right when Shifu punched through the rock. And it succeeded. It sent Shifu flying across the hall. That was one of the proof that he not only use 100% of his brute strength, but he also used strategic thinking and skills. Sure, he did use his strength, majority. But thats because his strength and skills are completely on another level. Ofc training for the role MUST have been quite hard. All the hardships he'd been through, JUST FOR THAT ONE ROLE. But he was rejected when the time came. Thats why i understand his feeling of rage and disappointment. But being in the spirit realm, he has alot of time to rethink about his purpose and calm down. Maybe train harder to be stronger? But even with his level, his power is not enough to escape the spirit realm. He needs to master chi in order to do that. Kai stole the chi and used the shortcut. Honestly idk how Tai Lung was gonna return, if they ever plan him to anyways.

I think to answer the idea that he forgot who he was which didn't continue from the second movie was that his actual dad showed uo which made him question who he was again. If his dad didnt show up he would have had inner oeace but when Lee showed up it brought some more questions on how does he become a panda and whats it mean to be a panda. It's something you can easily forgive because he was really messed up after knowing he lost everything but learned to accept his past.

I think that this was very necessary for Po’s growth, like personally I don’t think it undermines his changes and values from the second movie. I think that Po was starting to lose himself after he got into Kung Fu and he needed to be in his “natural habitat” in order to fully understand his full potential and identity, and truly get the panda culture and become everything that he is, he’s never really experienced the life of a Panda before, and I feel like that’s how a lot of adopted kids feel, like you never feel fully ingrained so I think this was the perfect step for his character development is just experiencing and knowing all of who he is, he’s an adopted kid, he’s the fat not athletic kid, he’s the dragon warrior, he’s a panda, and I think that was the whole point of this movie, that you should know and ingrain yourself with who you are and have always been to really be able to accept yourself like this
@cristalmagic8664

I still think that a fourth was not necessary, this concludes all of Po's development and that is evident when he answers the question I was asking from the first and knows for sure who he is.
