You can love a man without giving up who you are and what is right. I see it more clearly now as an adult that this movie was trying to empower! Leavemea Lone funny how it's Alan Menken's idea to cut "If I never Knew You", saying how it's scarily too mature for the young audience (didn't test well with the demographic). I think people dislike Disney's accuracy in the story's cultural representation, or how they dealt with themes about racism, bigotry. Some also don't like how it wasn't a happy ending. Personally, I think this is a beautiful film mostly because of the artistic aspect of it.

@rishabhrox1
5 жыл бұрын
@@shreemuthpericherla5407 That's exaggeration. Nobody has ever said Pocahontas led to the downfall of 2D animation when in fact it was one of the most artistically created and beautiful animated film's in the entire 90s era of Disney. It was less successful only because The Lion King was released a year before and was a bigger success than anyone ever imagined - Pocahontas couldn't live up to that level. Plenty of 2D successful 2D films were made after Pocahontas like Tarzan and Mulan, and the absolutely fantastic Prince Of Egypt (although that was DreamWorks). Pocahontas DEFINITELY wasn't the reason 2D animation died out, the real reason was the change in the audience and development of computer animated technology (the success of Toy Story hinted clearly that the coming decade was going to have more of these films, nothing to do with Pocahontas though)

I know this film's not perfect, but this is one of the best Disney endings EVER. Seriously, it's like the Anti-Ariel ending - Ariel just straight up drops her family, friends, her whole life, everything for this stupid bloke she hardly knows... but Pocahontas is mature enough to realise that she can't do that, however much she wants to be with John. I love that she makes that choice, and the music highlights the struggle she goes through as she makes it.

+Katherine Yatsko At least the scores aren't. Maybe it's just the nostalgia talking, and the fact that we watched these films over and over as kids, but the instrumental soundtracks of the Disney Renaissance films were just so memorable and sweeping compared to those of their current films. The music that accompanies the Beast's transformation, Simba's ascent of Pride Rock, Pocahontas's farewell to John Smith, and Mulan's decision to cut her hair are so powerful. On the other hand, I couldn't identify an instrumental selection from "Frozen" if my life depended on it. Disney needs to get some strong composers working on their films again.

As a child I wasn't a big fan of Pocahontas. To be honest, I think it was one of my least favourites. I rather watched Aladdin or Beauty and the Beast. As a child I loved only the ones with a "happy ending", the kind of endings where the prince ended up with the princess. I hated Pocahontas because of the goodbye. However as I've grown up I've seen the beauty in this movie that was invisible for my innocent soul. I've realised that the ending wasn't a goodbye but a letting go. There is a big difference as goodbye is an "I'll see you again when I'm ready to hold your hand and you're ready to hold mine" however a letting go is an "I'll miss your hand but I realized it was never mine to hold." I finally see the happy ending in this movie and that is that's it's always better to let go with a smile, than to hold on with tears.

This movie takes me back to when life was so happy, it has such a perfect narrative and message throughout and I remember sitting in front of the vhs as a kid, putting in all the old Disney classics and I would watch them for hours on end, some of the most precious moments and peaceful times that I will never forget- Just had to learn the violin part for this

So does anyone else listen to this and envision a reunion instead of a farewell? I am very familiar with the original scene from the movie, but I always picture watching and waiting for that special someone. Several times you think they you see them or think they've come at last and get excited only to realize it's not them. And just as you finally turn away in disappointment, the special someone comes around the corner and spots you waiting for them. To be sure, they whistle a tune that is known only between the two of you and sure enough, you recognize it, turn, and realize they're finally here! All that time spent aching and longing to see them rises then falls as you realize you finally can. A smile slowly grows across your face as you feel yourself walking towards them and they walk towards you. By now, the music has reached its glorious end as that long awaited embrace is finally yours and the rest is history.

I don't ever think I'll stop loving Pocahontas. Watching her as a kid and even now I never get tired of it. Disney has the ability to touch your heart with magic which I think they are losing in their most recent films. When I was little I never knew why I always teared up at the end. Its just that moment when she stands by her father and slowly starts to walk...then she runs and stops on the cliff and waves goodbye...even though sad it really is a beautiful moment.

This makes me cry--with 3:07, how it starts building at 3:34, and especially the tune of Colors of the Wind at 3:55. I watched the movie for the first time recently and was wondering how everyone hated this--though it's incorrect, it has gorgeous music, along with a dramatic story and perfect animation.

So, during this Corona quarantine, I decided to go back to my childhood and rewatch some of the Disney movies. Man, some stuff really hit me, I mean, all of the movies, Pocahontas, Lion King, Tarzan, Prince of Egypt all have such a deeper meaning than I actually thought. I know they are cartoons, but adults should also watch them from time to time, just to help them remember they might not be walking the right path or have simply forgotten themselves.

This music will go perfectly for the endings of both Toy Story 3 and 4! The fact that both Woody and Pocahontas at the end had to make very difficult choices and sacrifices for the need of others and the choices of wanting to stay or go with the cost of saying farewell to their loved ones, is really powerful , heartrending and emotional.💫☁️ "So long partner..." "To infinity and beyond..."

I actually thought it would go well with the ending of the original “Pete’s Dragon” where after Pete is finally safe with a family who loves him, Elliott has to fly away to help another kid in trouble and they can never see each other again and the ending to “The Chronicles of Narnia 3” where Lucy and Edmund have grown up like their older siblings, Peter and Susan and can no longer return to the magical world they all first discovered through a wardrobe in the first movie. Whenever I watch the end of those movies, this score will come to mind.

Even though now as an adult, I know the real story of Pocahontas, and I think they should’ve made this story about a fictional character, and not use someone’s story that existed in real life and gone through such hard times and change it. I still loved this movie as a kid, it was the movie I watched the most, I would watch it 3 times in a day, despite having other movies I also liked to watch, knew all the lines and songs. She was my favorite disney caracter , because she was a native american and I was fascinated by their culture, because she wasn’t the usual stereotype of this blonde princess with blue eyes in a castle waiting for a prince. I loved everything about her, the fact that she wanted to make her own choices, that it the story was in this nature environment and not a castle and fancy clothes, the fact that the story shows us the danger that lies in assuming people that are different as evil and something to remove, and that we shouldn’t feel entitled to change people specially by force. And besides that for a child I was a bit sad they got separated, I still liked because as much as she loved him, it was more important to be with her dad and help her tribe that just had this traumatic experience of loosing one of their own and almost going to war by simply being on their land that others just tried to occupy , and I remember being so much inspired by that, by her sense of duty, that was a breath of fresh air specially for a female princess character. So even though I think they should’ve picked a fictional name and character and not use this poor girls story and change the horrible things that happened to her, I still appreciate the story that they were trying to show to kids, that happy endings isn’t always how we picture them, that a girl doesn’t need to be rescued by a boy, that preserve nature and take care of it, is more important than to build things out of the desire to conquer, that sometimes family and responsibility are more important, and that people different from us doesn’t mean they are less or evil, and how much we should work to avoid thinking and acting that way. As a kid this movie really in a way taught me a lot of things

This music was in my head when I was saying my emotional goodbye to my close best friend who is Native American like Pocahontas. She stayed with me on holiday in England for two weeks which we had planned to do for years, we had the best time of our lives and felt strongly emotional when it was time for us to part ways at the airport where she was catching her flight. I said the words that Pocahontas says to John Smith "No matter what happens , I will always be with you forever."
