There is a CNN special on CNN reporter Victor Blackwell. Mr. Blackwell had his ancestry researched by a trained and skilled genealogist. What was discoverd, was very astonishing! Mr. Blackwell descended from free people of color, but not only was he a descended of free people of color, he was also of NDN descent. Mr. Blackwell descended from the original Mattaponi people of Old Mattaponi Towne. His 10th grandmother and her grandaughter were held as POW's during a battle that occured in the late 1600's. They were also placed in bondage and had to fight in court for their freedom as well as their descendants. There will be a day of reckoning! You can definitely beiieve that!

@KissGrandma Hello. I'm from North Alabama (Limestone County to be exact), but I now live in Madison County right next to Redstone Arsenal and I can attest that what you say is true about our people here in the southeast having Indigenous heritage. My great great great great maternal grandmother was Lucy Beddingfield, a Cherokee Indian. There are historical markers about her in the small community where she lived and owned 170 acres of land in 1888, which it states she paid for with gold coins 🪙. She lived on that land and farmed it until the TVA purchased it in 1935 for the creation of Wheeler Lake. She was born somewhere between 1830 to 1832. Lucy continued living in Limestone County Alabama til her latter years and then she moved to Oklahoma to live with her daughter. Many of Lucy's family members had already been forced to migrate to Oklahoma several decades prior during the Trail of Tears 😢. Lucy died in Oklahoma in 1910 and is buried there.

@@cryptonormalencounters I’m familiar with Lucy from my research I’m honored to be in contact with a descendant. From Huntsville to Florence Alabama was a thriving indigenous community that operated independently outside of the United States. And yes many Cherokee families continued to live in north Alabama because of t the Powhatan Nation owning that area. Do you know if there’s a connection with Lucy and the Cherokee chief named “Brown” that owned Brown’s ferry in that area and Chattanooga?

@@PawahtanToney I was told by family members that her father was a chief and also when I pulled historical records, the paperwork said that one of the last known Indian chiefs in the area lived on the property where she lived and in the same cabin before she lived there, but I don't know the name of that chief and the Limestone County Historical Society wouldn't tell me who he was. They claimed they didn't know even though they were the ones that said a chief lived there before

interesting. I remember when Disney made the movie. For some reason I always felt like wow there's a disney princess that looks like me. I even had the Pocahontas tent as a kid and would read my books. I didn't even know the controversy surrounding it cause I had no idea that it was base on a true story but it got so much heat cause most of story was fabricated to sell a fantasy story. Now that I think about it I wonder is Thomas that was made knight was his character the one that shot and killed Kocoum in the moie. I can't wait to hear more about this topic. I always wondered about this story.
