That you already knew the answer is buy off the open market & maybe get a lemon, is why you are the most trusted reviewer in your niche. Thanks for being you!

A properly-operating dynamic will totally ignore the presence of phantom power - hence the name. But a bit of insulation leakage in a transformer, or, in a dynamic that has no transformer, a lack of perfect centering of the voice coil, can cause noises ranging from a slight sputtering to tremendous bangs. I would buy gear from a dealer to avoid the possibility that a manufacturer might send you a "sweetened" or hand-picked sample that out-performs most of the units reaching the public.

After an accident with my Brauner Phantom Classic mic (bought from a dealer) in 2023 I sent it directly to Brauner and within 2 working days I received an answer, sent for repair and less than 2 weeks I got it back. So I think it depends on the company where to buy.

The Neumann / Sennheiser after-sales service is incredible. I had problems with Neumann KM150 and KM140 (old), for almost nothing, they were repaired in a month. I had a first generation MKH8060 and 2x 8050, which were sometimes defective (without the shiny ring), I was able to change the 3 microphones free of charge for new ones well after 2 years of warranty (because "the fault came from them"). Then one of the new MKH8050s (which I had just received) was hit while filming, it had an internal "click" noise when it was moved on a boompole, the same: repaired for 0€, even if it was my fault (and I told them), and received in 3 weeks !

You can't know whether a specific dynamic mic will take the phantom voltage. In theory all should. In practice one could blow😅 I would be too hesitant^^

Even better, buy a refurb from the manufacture. Then you know it's been looked over specifically for quality assurance.

Sennheiser customer service is incredible. I got a defective MKH 416 and they replaced it within days. Same with a measurement microphone for the Sennheiser Ambeo (which is now called Ambeo Max) which I destroyed myself.

The whole point of a review is to give the potential buyer an idea what they are in for. Therefore, you should buy from an authorized dealer to most closely simulate that experience

Hi Bandrew. Hi. Long time listener, first time caller... (god, I'm funny hahahaha) Annnnnyway... I have a confession to make, forgive me for using your forum. Mic talk. At this point, after years of slogging away at it, I am fortunate to be eking a living out of VO work. After using the NT1 for about five years, I started test-driving upgrades. (103, NTK, etc...) I also occasionally buy silly cheap stuff. The confession: So far, the best fit for my voice, my space, and dare I say, much smoother than the Rode, my new daily driver is, uh, unexpected. A used MXL 3000 I bought on Ebay for 75 bucks. What?? I don't know how to feel about this...

That's funny. I was thinking of taking a break from listening to podcasts. I listen to a lot every day. I think I've been having information overload lately. I was planning to do it last month or this month. Probably should do it soon.

I'm pretty convinced that it doesn't make much sense asking the manufacturer "Hey, does this mic sound properly?" People buy mics at the market so the tree 's the _real_ product. Who cares what company's engineers invented, we're interested what we'll get, how the mass production sounds like.

As a fellow high-strung human I hope you'll try silence. A favorite song to start the day or whenever is great, but letting silence become normal is so healthy and deeply relaxing. So is leaving "the news" out of your life, but that's another subject. Congrats on your week away from podcasts. I hope you'll let the peace of silence become a regular part of your day.

I've not been able to get into podcasts, but something about your podcasts are more interesting than many others I tried to listen or watch. I guess it's more less cuz you gesture when speaking, which speaks to me more than just spoken words. Don't ask. I'm weird :P

Do not buy from company and till them it will be reviewed, you need to check QC. The once and awhile not checking everything because it did not occure to you to test something is normal and does not nullify the review. This would be understood by your subscribers, because you are being a normal human. We all make mistakes, we need to see you make mistakes to see you are being honest to us. Keep up the great reviews and videos, thanks a bunch...

Maybe feed your podcast listening by picking non-news non-political topics. I mainly follow Mics, Cameras, Woodwork, Engineering, Science - mostly as distraction or entertainment viewing, some educational. Pick your own topics, but it needn't be high stress listening or viewing. Given the devotion of some of us viewers, I just wondered, did you ever see that Kathy Bates movie...?

Get a verified model. You're right, you DID review a defective mic - the sE DynaCaster; you remember correctly. That review led me to get the GAP D2 Mk II instead. I'm happy with the mic though. Just sayin'.

I didn't review a defective sE Dynacaster. I simply used a dynacaster on this podcast which was defective. I got a functioning Dynacaster before I produced my full review.
