This has really opened my eyes, I am quite an impatient person and really want things to happen at the moment I want, so I am one of those people who bought Pearl, White, and Platinum with such a high price. Seeing this I realized that I should cherish the games I have and spend my time with those and wait until the prices drop. I really want to complete my collection. I was also thinking them as a reselling object in the future but that was the greedy side of me, this video has really made me realize that I shouldn't think like that and that I should let my love for pokemon take over instead of being greedy. I hope more people watch your video. It did a great job for me and possibly many others.

hey same! I haven't fallen for the inflatable prices yet, the closest I got was paying 300 for a used GBA SP that included every GBA game except Sapphire loose, but that also came with 11 other games as well as a carrying case and wifi accessory (along with some posters for the included games, about half the games' manuals, and 2 guide books for the Kanto remakes) ignoring the weird ramble I went on there, I've been so heartbroken to see these prices skyrocket- I've loved these games my entire life and have never been able to get the physical editions because my mom would constantly insist on flashcarts and piracy, so the fact that at the moment it's reasonably impossible to buy these games is just depressing. Hopefully all these prices deflate soon! Glad this video gave some good suggestions as to where to buy this stuff at a somewhat affordable price too, it's so hard to find this stuff for anything reasonable nowadays

welp, major part of the problem is: 1. Their are only a limited amount of games produced in the whole world. Minus the non english ones and you have even less cardridges. 2. Many cardridges were once owned by children, who didnt always treat them as well as an adult would do. So many games got lost or broken or they were just in a poor state e.g the front cover got badly damaged, making it less desireable for collectors. 3. Many (lets say) enthusiasts and people with high nostalgia collect not only one but multiple games. So a few people have a lot of cardridges -> less cardridges for the average dude who just wants to play a childhood game. Similar to the GPU Scalping problem during Covid.

@balls I bought a copy in 2009 (but lost it) so I've seen an original cartrige before. I also have other pokemon games to compare it to. The nintendo logo is spelt correctly on both sides and has the dot at the top right corner of the o. It's European so it says NTR-CPUP-EUR on the front and the back black code starts with CPUP. It says "Original Nintendo Seal of Quality" which is correct for Europe. Most fakes copy the USA cartrige. The white code on the green part is spaced in 3 parts (fakes often put a number/letter/symbol on every column) and ends with Y10-01 The down arrow on the front is not indented or raised, just slightly shiny like all my other nintendo cartriges bought from stores The sticker on the front has some browning on the top showing its over a decade old The words "The Pokémon Company" are in bold, and the colors of the sticker aren't washed out. It also works completely fine so far, and the main drawback of reproductions is that they often don't work properly at certain points of the game

@NS 317 tbh the launch of gen 5 was terrible to most nostalgia driven fans cutting the dex to 156 gen 5 pokemon is a bad move no matter how you put it, pokemon has always been about the ability to choose your own team and to complete it with a variety of multigenerational mons. had the dex been expanded as in bw2 people would be looking more fondly at gen 5 from start. to this day you cannot catch pikachu native to unova in bw2 because game freak assumed you owned the older games or you used the dream world feature to get it that being said, its kinda a trend for old generations to make massive cuts to dex on the generation launch and to keep the dex gated for main campaign (cough d/p having 151 regional dex, smaller than in gen 3)

Four best Pokémon games that you can play on your DS that is, for four best Pokémon games that you can play on your 3DS, everything changes, ORAS replaces Emerald, XY replaces Platinum, SM replaces HGSS, and USUM replaces B2W2, since they all utilizes the 3D graphics and also the only ones that have a 3D effect feature if that’s interesting for you, and as we all know, early 3D Pokémon games have better graphics than 2D Pokémon games, even modern 3D Pokémon games doesn’t even have the aforementioned 3D effect, only the early 3D ones does, and as the 3D effect is on the rise again as people grew more nostalgic over this, more and more people buy 3DSs as they have that feature, and some of them end up buying the aforementioned Pokémon games like XY, ORAS, SM and USUM that have the 3D effect, i have two of those, XY and SM, but either way, the prices of XY, ORAS, SM and USUM is starting to skyrocket.

A healthy collector doesn't need everything yesterday, they just want it someday. People that want everything now also are the people that quickly drop out of the hobby but often expect to get back what they payed or more (a fun way to spot them online in listings is them claiming "I know what I have" or "I know the price" when they want offers)

@@ChaotixBR You do realize that they made the amount to meet demand back then right? Stores were alway packed with those games for the longest time until the DS was discontinued. They had no way of knowing that everyone and their grandmother wanted to play pokemon several years later . That's like being surprised that stores weren't ready for surge of interest in the pokemon TCG as who would expect 30 yr old manchildren to be fighting over something intended for younger audiences? The " They should've thought ahead of time" mentality is gross. Nothing like having them print an over abundance of games when interest in the games was at its lowest point cause maybe there will be interest in it. If you were referring to the fact that they should let you order new copies of their older games off their website , that'd be an interesting concept though I doubt they'd do ever do that. Definitely would be a way to kill the price of those games.

@@qactustick In an indirect way it is. Other companies may reprint their games at a later date. Doesn't really happen with Pokémon and people know this. Once they stop printing the Pokémon game, people can hoard with all they got and watch the magic numbers go up. Game runs out from suppliers so now the price is up to individual sellers and at this point the value becomes an illusion.

Regarding the question of "why do people want these games now? You've only had 10+ years to buy them until now", you mentioned it yourself at the beginning of the video. Because of "pokerus", people are stuck at home and may have more time to get back into/re-live hobbies they've had as a kid. I am hopeful that once things get a little better prices will go down, but idk.

Great video explaining the situation with older Pokemon game prices. I was shocked to see that B&W and B2&W2 was so expensive. I wanted to add them to my collection again but when I saw that they were going for around $100-200. I just decided to wait for drops in price but it does take a while. prices will never go down to what they were post 2020. Nintendos refusual to re-release the GBA games to the nintendo store, the DS games being a nightmare/impossible to port because of the double screen, the gamecube games having licensing issues due to the various companies that worked with them, and gamecube games being a nightmare to port to any system. Emulation is the only that is making it possible to play these games. The old games will forever now be collector items sadly.

Let's just be clear here, its just pokemon that will lose value do not sell your other retro games, hold onto them for at least another 10 years and make sure you look after them. The only reason pokemon will go down in price is because of the sheer amount of product available. Other retro games will not drop in value as a lot of the most coveted games had low prints and or had their casing or boxes destroyed. What i will say though is that the GBC and GBA games complete in box will never drop in price. The amount of boxes and even carts destroyed by kids is in very high percentages.

That's possibly the worst idea. Technology fails over time. What happens when your DS no longer takes a charge, or your child drops and breaks it? The cartridge is now useless until you go out and buy a brand new DS. And with the way kids are nowadays, they don't play with outdated video games.
