In Gen II, OHKO moves automatically fail if the target has a higher level than the user. Their accuracy starts at 76/256 (approximately 30%) and increases by 2/256 (approximately 0.8%) for each level the user is above the target. This means that if the user's level is 90 levels greater than the target's, the move will have 100% accuracy. An X Accuracy will guarantee that all OHKO moves hit. The accuracy of OHKO moves in Generation II is affected by the standard accuracy and evasion stats.

Ah yes. Gligar. Another forgotten Pokemon before it gained an evolution. And, another “Venomoth” in the list. You think it is Poison/Flying at first glance. But, nope. Ground/Flying. Granted, they are pseudo Poison type nowadays that both Gligar and Gliscor are “immune” to Poison thanks to their Hidden Abilities. Speaking of which, both Gligar and Gliscor are annoying walls. With the former being immune to Toxic and pack beeeg bulk thanks to Eviolite, while the latter is one of the most annoying stall machines in the series that isn’t even Chansey levels of bulk (Granted, Gliscor can be an offensive menace at the same time).

It's actually really interesting that thaw, dethaw, and unthaw are all used to describe something frozen melting and well understood despite not being an autoantonym (like unshelled or shelled). I imagine that dethaw is from being conflated with defrost and deice and maybe unthaw is being conflated with unfreeze? Language is weird and interesting.

Gligar was the first shiny I found aside from the Red Gyarados, and since then I have only found 1 other shiny which was a Mienfoo. I'm thoroughly amazed at how few shinies I have encountered but I will always remember Gligar from my first play of Silver back when it came out.

I noticed you called Primeape a monkey. I understand the confusion, but he’s clearly a disgruntled dust bunny that made his way out of the vacuum cleaner seeking revenge.

The best memories of Gligar for me was on one of those battle emulator things. People always went for Thunderbolt against Gligar for some reason...

3:37 - To be fair, Faulkner's Pokemon only use Mud-Slap if it is Super-effective, and sometimes not even then! His Pidgeyotto will use Gust on Fire types because it does more damage than Mud-Slap.

I pronounce "guillotine" as "GEE-uh-teen" myself, but I am an American who knows a little bit of French as well. Actually, though, the first time I was exposed to the word "guillotine" was in Pokémon Stadium 2, and the announcer says the move name as "GEE-uh-teen" as well. I have always said it that way ever since. Keep in mind that I was only 10 years old at the time and had not yet been exposed to French.

Heya Scott! Please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you decide in one of the previous Gen2 runs (I think sneasel) that you'll use perfect iv's on every pokemon, so all end up with HP Dark, in order to compare them easier? What made you change your mind about that, and how will you decide what types the hidden power should be in upcoming gen 2 runs (assuming the hp is solely for coverage)?

Comments made me change my mind. Many people made the case for selecting an ideal hidden power if it didn’t impact DVs in a substantial way. I was under the impression it would be a wider disparity from perfect DVs but it isn’t very bad. The coverage or STAB move is definitely worth it.

I did not know about the different pronunciations of "guillotine"! Fascinating! Poor little Gligar without a stab move... You did your best, buddy! Looking forward to Murkrow next! For nicknames, maybe you could name it Nevermore after the Raven poem by Edgar Allen Poe. :)

Huginn or Muninn would work well too, as a reference to Odin's ravens.

Lol I honestly forgot it was even in the Johto dex. I stopped playing after gold and silver for a few years because I became a young teenager so pokemon was for babies. I got platinum in my late teens or early 20s and thought it was added in sinnoh.

I really thought gligar was a poison/ground so I thought sludge bomb would be stab. What a shame. I'm halfway through and it's doing good though. Go gligar! Also I'm very excited for the totodile run as that's my favorite starter of all time. I'm so happy you're doing gen 2 runs (fan gen) What an interesting final red fight Murkrow could be tough. I like the flying and dark typing though it could be exceptional. The frailty worries me but you got this
