There's just something special about how well it represented the physical TCG game we played in school at the time, and that tangible synergy between the simple Gen 1 cards we had and seeing them in the game. I'm sure it's a similar feeling that people who played Yu-gi-oh felt seeing their cards represented in the anime. I've made time to put about 6 hours into the game already, and it blows my mind because the time just flies. EDIT: The only oddity is being able to rewind but, when I've tried it, I've rewound to a minute prior when a coin flip doesn't go my way, but it never changes the results of that coin flip. Obviously, the game wasn't denied with a rewind feature in mind, but it just feels odd and rigged.
@doopness785

Actually this game has a feature to resume a duel if you powered off mid match. As a result you can’t reload/rewind to change the result of the flip to prevent cheating. Basically a large string of coin flips is done before the duel then presented in order as needed. It’s similar to how Fire Emblem handles it’s RNG. You can however rewind to change the contents of a booster pack. 👍🏻

There is an unofficial English fan translation for TCG 2 that makes it fully playable. Also, the reason there isn't a modern version of the game is because the format is more complicated than it was 23 years ago. Back then, there were only 3-4 sets (Base, Jungle, Fossil, and eventually Rocket in TCG 2). But now, a typical format is 10-12 sets, and the mechanics and interactions are more complex.

That is not a reason to, they just dont think is worth the investment. In fact it could go either, promote the game or hurt the physical game as people would move to the digital version of it. This is TCP and Nintendo so I won’t be surprised as they have this mindset. Mechanic wise is nothing impossible, Yugioh have more complicated ruleset with speed chain activation, priorities, extra deck mechanics, pendulum scale and link mark in the field. On top of that designing an AI that can play and utilize all of the mechanics, all that didn’t stopped Konami. I guess Pokemon fan expect all games to be lackluster and full of glitches and functional concept. GameFreak has done well teaching their fanbase.

Everything about this game is excellent (especially the music), and it still holds up really well today. Though it definitely helps that I can just battle Imakuni? over and over again since he gives out one of each booster pack and get the cards I need by exploiting the rewind feature on NSO if I end up getting garbo cards lol. I mean no offense, but if you did really like the game you'd know that lol, it wasn't released outside of Japan... doesn't mean you can't you know emulate it but obviously you guys probably can't because then Nintendo would waggle their finger at you. There is also an online version, where you enter card packs you buy and thus you can use the cards you have in the new online game. That being said yeah modern card buyers aren't playing the TCG for the competitive. Something to know about card fanatics, Yugioh the most valuable cards are the competitive viable ones, Pokemon... it's the popularity, fame, and art of the card. Like it doesn't matter how powerful this Giratina card I have from like a decade ago is... vs that newish Giga Umbreon that is touching the moon? That's the value of Pokemon cards in the modern day. Now I can't necessarily speak from personal experience, I haven't been in the card scene for about 5 years, +? That was what it was like in the 2010s though, and my brother who likes to gamble and got back into the trading card game confirms yeah still kind of that way. I was thinking disapointed heading home, little did I know that game would become my addiction, more than the regular Pokemon games, I would play it all night till sunrise, creating all kind of decks to fight the endless challenge at the end, so much fun. More than that, I have wondered why -with so many games that include card game mini-games and Pokémon's tendency to add mini-game side stuff- that GameFreak hasn't just incorporate a MINI lite version of the TCG into MAINLINE Pokémon. It would create a second thing hunt (better than shinies), it gives a reason to Release Mons if you could trade them in to get cards of the mon or spend points to get cards or exchange the loot drops from Mons for points, which also gives a reason to farm and Battle. There's a ton that adding a card game mini game could add. It also adds a level of strategy people were asking for while the main battles can still be light less complicated and appeal to kids.

You mentioned the energy system: it's stupid in the modern TCG as it makes energy acceleration the core mechanic of all attacks. The slow evolution process and high cost attacks of stage 2 Pokemon has made them fairly worthless as long as the game has existed, especially with the energy removal happy meta of gen 1. We just started playing the current TCG with 2 simple house ruleS: when a Pokemon without a rule box evolves to stage 1, you may search your deck for up to 2 basic energy that matches that Pokemon's type and attach it/them to that Pokemon. The second rule is the same for a stage 2 Pokemon, but only 1 energy may be searched for and attached instead of two. This effectively buffs the otherwise underpowered evolution lines, makes evolution useful rather than a largely negative mechanic that slows down the game, and knocks the glass cannon V's and EX's down to high-risk, high-reward gambles. It's not at all competitive as the game is balanced around the official rules, but it does make the terrible decks my kids make way more enjoyable than the meta-heavy decks of TCG Live.

I've beaten the og version of this game too many times. It's good, but too easy for me at this point. It's so easy to make a broken deck right after the tutorial that I don't really enjoy it anymore. It was a great game as a kid, so I hope others have the same fun I did when it first came out.

It’s kind of surprising that _Pokemon TCG Live_ has not been ported to Switch.
@isbragg
Жыл бұрын
Not that surprising, tbh. LIVE is strictly a TPCi endeavor, and they don’t have nearly as many resources available as TPC proper. Add to the fact that LIVE is not available in Japan (and even geolocked to the point that VPN use is required if you want to play in Japan, unlike the previous TCGO), and there isn’t an easy way to implement code scanning on the Switch, it’s highly unlikely that LIVE will ever release on the platform.

5:00 sounds like you want something known as a living card game. Which is literally instead of buy rng boosters. You buy card packs and they all have the same set cards in the same numbers as mentioned in the box. And yeah. I honestly prefer living card games over trading card games where their only real difference is how they distribute cards to players.

... but how is this different from my 3ds version of the game? That or frankly how so from my GB version? Why isn't it in the eshop where I could either 1 buy it again... or if this was a different console since it's already on my Nintendo ID account just redownload save and all? I find no value in this, when we had access to it only a few months ago to permanently buy, rather than have on an Online service where save data is at risk of being wiped. Nor is it the sequel that wasn't released outside of Japan... So why should I bother? Why should I care? Like I do seriously love this game, I've completed it 3+ times, and the online feature is neat, playing without a link cable... but why not put this in the eshop? Why block it behind a 20$ a year pay wall? If you look 5 years from now, if you went to buy the Online service just for this game you're paying 100$ just to keep it... why? At that point you might as well buy from a scalper.
@BlaizeTheDragon

Then it's not for you? Dont know what else to tell you. Some people might not have a Gameboy colour original or had it on 3DS but just so happened to have switch online for some other reason (maybe they wanted to play smash online) so now they get a chance to play this gem. The fact it can be played online is a neat bonus too that does make it more enjoyable. Just because it doesn't benefit you doesnt mean it's not a good thing for others.

@yoshiwoollyworld Yes and I said that
@IgnatiusBlaze4

@@BlaizeTheDragon I don't know what else to tell you then that you missed the point of my comment. For starters you could've gotten it on 3ds at any point until 5 months ago. There is also emulation. You'd also buy Nintendo Online... just for Smash Bros? I don't deny this is a neat gem... but then why not like the 3ds put it in the eshop? It's because it's a gem I made my point. Nintendo Online is a terrible service, and what's the point in getting Nintendo Online just for this game when it was readily available for like 5$ on the 3ds? On top of it's still possible to lose your Nintendo Online save data, thus pointless to play any of their games on Nintendo Online. My point was why make a video dedicated to it now? They didn't for the 3ds version, this adds next to nothing and while online is nice... is not going to mean anything in the long run 1 because of their terrible online service, and 2... if the Switch goes the same way as the 3DS and Wii U, what then? Now you can't use the online function of this game on your Switch. This is just Nitendo covering their butts, and the video I see it as defending that, and it shouldn't, when this game deserves better treatment because it's a gem. Steam and Epic Games, save data, emulation, I can use on any PC, tablet, or phone, X Box Gold/Gamepass you can keep your games occasionally... or you know buy from their actual store separately without their online service. Nintendo is like 2 decades behind on everything they do, the Switch itself is basically running on not Wii U hardware, but Wii hardware. Then they wonder why people emulate. Heck a multiplayer battle royal Mario 64 exists now... not made by Nintendo, fan made. Fans see these games for the gems they are... and yet Nintendo wants to make a quick buck taking advantage of that rather than do stuff to help, and they shun emulation for it, yet emulations are 1 keeping their games alive, 2 scalpers are the real villains and why people move to emulation (because yeah if you wanted to play it on a GB and the actual game probably in the hundreds rather than what it did cost back in the day), and 3 they use emulation themselves. Their 3ds version of this game, AND the Switch version are both emulations.
@IgnatiusBlaze4
Жыл бұрын
@yoshiwoollyworld Fair point, but still why behind the Online service? Why not make it purchasable? Also speaking as someone who complete it twice, once on the GBA and again on my 3ds, it's also not impossible to get every single card within the game, so card pop isn't necessary just a fun bonus, doesn't provide anything. on top of again, while it has been fixed some, it is still possible for your Nintendo Online save files for all these emulations to be wiped. Also not like fans can't make an online function in emulators (I can't speak to if one does, I don't have one on an emulation), as I said to the other person Mario 64 Online. If you don't have another way to play it's not hurting anyone, but... wouldn't you rather own the game then have it be temporary that you pay 20+ dollars a year for? Within 5 years if you were paying for just the NES/SNES/Gaemboy etc 20$ ones that's 100$ if you were buying Nintendo Online for just that. Not to mention Switch is 6 years and 5 months old, consoles are lucky to live 6, the 3ds and gameboy were lucky to make it to 6 1/2. Point being Switch needs replacing... honestly like a few years ago it did, running on essentially Wii hardware. So by next year it may be replaced and what if the Switch goes the same way as the 3ds/Wii U? Then you lose all those games and can't transfer them up. My comment is just to provide awareness, because fans deserve better. If every other platform can do all these functions, including emulators, there is no reason Nintendo can't.
@IgnatiusBlaze4
Жыл бұрын
@yoshiwoollyworld Also speaking as someone who isn't paying 50$ a year for N64 Online, who has never played the Stadium games, would've loved to buy them for 10$ each... but they are not in the eshop they are behind that 50$ a year pay wall, if I'd bought that when it released just for those games, that aren't worth more than 20$ in this day and age (ignoring scalpers), this October... I'd be paying 150$ just to play those, 3 years since the N64 Online dropped. 2 games that I also believe have Online functions? At that point I may as well be buying from scalpers. Thus, my only other option is emulating, if I want to "own" the games and play them whenever and wherever I want.

All classic games on Switch Online (NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, GB, GBA) support online play as it is built in to the apps themselves. It’s not implemented on a game by game basis. The Game Boy and GBA games also support local wireless.
