Regarding filming trips, I'm not sure most people realize just HOW much work that is. You are always thinking of compositions, the flow of the story and the edit, what to say, how often to film, and all this stuff. All while traveling remote and needing to focus on all of the things necessary to keep your trip fun and safe. Especially when you set up all of the shots yourself, it's exhausting lol. Major props for how well you manage to do it.

Well for someone who has owned dogs and cats over 40 years, I wouldnt suggest you get a puppy when Grim is older..because puppys are 100% full attention when they are young, and not all dogs will adjust very well to a new member if they have been the only one in the house all those years..Dogs and cats have feelings and they get very jealous...My advice is not to get a puppy until AFTER Grim Dies, because that will honestly affect Grim in not a good way..especially if he has always got all the attention..my one cat went downhill when I decided to get more cats in the house..and she was not happy at all...some breeds of cats and dogs will be ok, but not all..you always say the other dog that Lynn owns when he comes over , Grim isnt very happy...that is all you need to know, and a puppy is even worse since its younger...hope that helps.

I agree with the majority here. Older dogs are usually in some sort of pain, to have a puppy bombarding them, is only going to irritate the older dog, and add to their pain, and discomfort. Older dogs also, do not teach younger dogs how to behave. This is a very old misconception. Teaching your puppy, is the humans job.

So about getting a pup when Grim is older, like 12. I have done the very same thing twice, but it had implications with my dogs, by the way I'd do it again without hesitation. You will find the pain of losing Grim will be very intense and having a pup, with all the demands a pup requires, helps to get over the loss of your treasured pet. But.... my first old dog had bad hips at the end and when I got my English Spring Spaniel pup he of course learned from the old dog. Because of my original dogs bad hips he couldn't raise his leg to pee like a male dog so he squatted like a female dog. My new pup copied that behaviour and even though he to was male, he pied like a female dog all his life. The second scenario is that pup I just talked about became an old dog and I again got a pup. And like my first Springer, my second Springer in old age developed hip problems. He couldn't jump up on sofas, and car seats, beds, etc. So instead he would go to the sofa or what have you and put his front paws on it to let us he know he wanted a lift up. And so the new pup copied that behaviour. So even now, with that new pup being 5 years old, he will sometimes put his front paws on the sofa or bed or what have you wanting us to lift him up even though the last thirty times he had jumped up. So the old passes on to the new, but not always what you think will be passed on.

I am also hesitant about getting a puppy when you have an older dog (and have had experience of this). Older dogs can have health issues, eg arthritis as noted above, and can be less tolerant (understandably) of a bouncy, energetic young dog. I am more a fan of getting a puppy when the older dog is not too old (eg now is probably a good time, when he is 7), so he/she can enjoy it.

i grew up in california, before moving to pennsylvania, and there were always stories about bears ripping out windows/doors to get into cabins around lake tahoe/yosemite region in the sierra nevada mountains. I know this is an older video, but may I offer this thought? An old dog who is slowing down and maybe has a bit of arthritis usually finds a puppy (with all their energy and no manners) intolerable. A big nuisance. Plus, training a puppy takes a lot of your time, of course, and maybe some time and energy you'd normally give to Grim. I think we need to think of these things when we bring a puppy into a house with an old dog. And, dogs don't care if another dog is his son, or brother or whatever. The only relationship that really seems to be honored is with a mother and her pups. You see how Grim is with Fenris! He doesn't care he's his brother! LOL In any case, Grim IS beautiful and sweet! It's clear to see why you love him so much! ❣

With complete kindness ... Maybe if we consider put aside our mental constructs and consider our dog's feelings, we might reconsider our opposition to having a second (or more) dog (or puppy) in the family (pack) ... I have a 48 kg "puppy" -- who began to act "sad" despite my wife and I spending virtually the entire day together ... We brought into our pack two puppies (who grew into 9 kg adults) and his entire demeanor changed ... His spirit was uplifted and years fell from his behavior ... We eventually brought another female puppy into our pack (who grew into a 30 kg adult ... We now have the two larger puppies -- and five of the smaller puppies ... and they all are demonstrably happy ... Fortunately our canine friends are schnauzers (Giants and Mini-Schnauzers) so they don't shed (or shed very little) ... *** Your content is GREAT -- btw ***

Thank you for sharing Svalbard and your town and home with us shut-ins around the world. I live in the middle of a pine forest and my niece has just begun raising a bull calf for her school project and now the young bull has a wild deer for a girlfriend. She sleeps at our back porch during the day just outside his pen. Fortunately our dogs have decided to ignore her. And last night I saw my first firefly in maybe 15 years. Global warming has caused drier seasons for years and they have been declining. When I was a child you could see galaxies of them swarming and flashing on meadows or on deep, grassy creek banks. It is so good to see one again. Maybe more soon.🤞

revisiting 9/11/22 because of your latest BEAR-ALERT video today (which was a good one) but have a sincere question (if it can be answered briefly.) Why is the town and country government so hell-bent on preventing you from building a driveway? We saw the construction material transportation by sleigh. We know you have paved roads (which end.) Is it a "It is just the way we like it" to resist progress? New question: Does the restaurant & school in town have city water? From Pennsylvania I can say it is funny that you have a fancy cabin and also a rustic cabin, yet you keep life exciting and are endeared to many people here. I won't interject humor that Grim does not interview well. 1:04 - priceless. He just walked away.
