Getting the Elf Work Train to the North Pole Scene on my layout is complicated. The Elf Work Train must maneuver around two larger Polar Express trains to reach its goal.
So how does the Elf Work Train get to the North Pole with two Polar Express trains in its way? Well, it’s complicated! In this video, I’ll maneuver three trains to get the Elf Work Train from Track Number 3, my elevated track, down to the North Pole scene on Track Number 1. And we’re starting right now.
Hi. I’m Owen. If you enjoy watching electric trains maneuvering in operating sessions, I think you’ll like this video. In addition to operating sessions, I do frequent new product reviews and demonstrations. I’m also continuing to build, expand, and improve my Polar Express Layout. I demonstrate how to build a layout with easy, step-by-step demonstrations. If you want to see more videos like this, please consider subscribing to my KZitem channel. I want to get the Polar Express Elf Work Train down from Track 3, my elevated track, to the North Pole Scene on Track 1. Track 3 connects with Track 2 at the bottom of the grade. However, the Polar Express Passenger Train is on Track 2.
A pair of Remote Control O-36 switches connects Track 2 with Track 1 on the east side of the layout. Another pair connects 1 and 2 on the west side of the layout. Track 1 is occupied by the Polar Express Freight Train.
To get the Elf Work Train to the North Pole scene, I have to get around the other Polar Express trains. Through the maneuvers necessary to reach the goal, I’ll be controlling the three trains using the LionChief App on my iPad Mini. I’ll explain what I’m doing each step along the way.
I’m going to begin by starting down the grade with the Elf Work Train. I’ll throw the switch to exit from Track 3, and then head down the grade toward Track 2.
I’ll park on the grade and disconnect the Elf Work Train from the App. Then I’ll connect the Polar Express Berkshire pulling the passenger train. Next I’ll reposition the passenger train so that the Elf Work Train can get past it.
The passenger train is now in position. I’ll disconnect it from the App, and connect the Pere Marquette Berkshire pulling the freight train, so that I can also reposition it to allow the Elf Work Train to pass.
Now both the passenger and freight trains are properly positioned. I’ll disconnect the Pere Marquette from the App and connect the Elf Work Train. Before I can pull, I need to throw five switches for the train to get around the passenger and freight trains and reach the North Pole scene.
Now it’s time to take the Elf Work Train back up the grade to Track 3.
