Great video, most likely an aftermarket ignition switch. On the wiring side, if the brown (ground) wire doesn’t send a ground signal to the cdi (black wire) it’ll stay running and not shut off.

That’s exactly what the problem was with my bike, the brown and black was disconnected! Now shuts off with key. I haven’t had a chance to get the carb and muffler put back on but I’m hoping to get at it this weekend, fingers crossed it will be rideable for next weekend. Thanks for all the input!

I had a problem my my key switch, where it wouldn't light up the dash and my four wheel drive didn't work. I took it apart and one of the contact popped out of its groove. Popped it back in and glued the case back together. Great video.

Thanks for the info. I just took a key switch apart to see what it looked like. Not much to it.

I wanted to say your videos are extremely informative and helpful, keep up the good work! I have an issue with a 2002 Sportsman 700, I can’t figure out or find anything online with the problem. It starts runs and drives but the engine runs away like a diesel so I shut it off before it blows up. It’s also running rich. I had the original carb cleaned at the dealer for a no start problem. Now this, any hints? What are your thoughts? Thank you

The 700s are known for the intake boot and the exhaust Y pipe cracking. Both will cause a lean issue and make it run faster at idle. Is that what you mean by take off like a diesel?

@Titaniumman Garage So the carb boot/intake boot looks good, the y pipe is good but the muffler is off the atv. Start the bike, engine cold, from idle the rpm increase by itself to well past safe operating rpm range until it’s shut off with the key. This is a crate engine with 267 miles on it. I’m stumped!! I did order a carb kit from All Balls, just waiting for it to arrive. Thanks again

@@darcycooper9727 The carb kit will help. I did read somewhere you should have the muffler on because it needs the back pressure.

Sportsman 500 6x6 - I have a similar issue with the factory switch, bought a new switching thinking 1-2-3 it would be fixed... same issue. Switch works power and starter but when I try to turn it off, it's not killing spark. Any ideas guys? I'm worried it's draining battery, how would I test to see if ther e is any load when the key is "off"?

If you have a kill switch, you don't need and are better off without the key off. It can stay on all the time.

Makes sense. Kill switches get corroded from not being used and key switches wear out.

I have the issue where turn key off and fan keeps running, it was flashing needle and heat symbol on cluster so I changed the heat sensor in the engine and now needle and symbol don't flash but when turn off fan stays on. WTH. 2004 500 6x6

Hey been watching your videos, i have a 2005 or 06 sportman 500 HO. Has a tick, think its valves or timing chain? any tips how to check timing tension would help.
@TitaniummanGarage

I'm not sure how you could check the tension. But if its got over 2500 to 3000 miles on it I would replace the chain. They stretch after time.

@@TitaniummanGarage I bought this thing a couple of weeks ago and it was garage kept. 94 Polaris sportsman 400 4x4. I used it immediately after I bought it at our hunting property. Afterwards I put it on the trailer and it never came off the trailer for a week and a half. While it was on the trailer I started it two or three times with no problems. But last weekend went out to the hunting property to use my new quad And it would not fire up. Pulled the spark plug and it was wet and there is no fire coming from a plug put in the boot and grounded or with the plug boot off of the wire grounded to the engine block. Changed the CDI. Ruled out all of the things that you mentioned on your videos with CDI and switches. And it does appear that I am getting a 26 volt pulse or so coming from the pickup. I am a motorcycle mechanic and this is beating the crap out of me. Please let me know what you think. It appears to be that you are some kind of Polaris whisperer lol.
