I was a Alter Boy there. I am the only one of four, who didn't graduate from Immaculate Conception. I remember in 3rd. Grade being told No Next Year. Millage did not pass. And boy. Did that hurt. I was looking forward to Fourth Grade on the second floor. Then. My Neighborhood, My History, My Life. Was taken from Me. That was everything. That Neighborhood. People who knew it know what I mean. That Neighborhood was one that can never be replicated. I am. And will ever be sad.

Even back then they could have put the plant in another location in Detroit.

Building the GM Poletown Plant was a good idea. Just the absolute wrong location. Then mayor Coleman Young had racist objectives which lead to Detroit's decline. The GM plant should have been at the site of the old Packard Plant as but one example. In the future all large factories should be built on vacant industrial land or on the site of a old outdated factory.

The obsolete factories in Detroit area were built vertical because real estate was unavailable. The Poletown plant is a sprawled factory of a single floor, like most modern factories. There was no way to assemble the needed land by the traditional process of buying individual properties. The use of immanent domain to acquire properties was wrong. Americans are losing property rights. The social cohesiveness of that part of the city was destroyed.
