The seminar is based on the biography and experiences of Polish Auschwitz survivor Stanisław Hantz. Learning the story of Stanisław Hantz and his camp experiences gave the possiblity for seminar participants to discover the Auschwitz Memorial from his perspective.
The main purpose of the tri-national meeting is to commemorate the Victims and to reflect personally on values such as independence, tolerance and responsibility.

Stanisław (Staszek) Hantz was deported by the Nazis from Warsaw to Auschwitz in August 1940. He was 17 years old at the time. Since then he became the number 2049, which was tattooed on his forearm. Staszek was imprisoned for 35 months in the main camp (Stammlager) and 16 months in Auschwitz II-Birkenau. Among other things, he worked in an agricultural commando and in a carpentry workshop. At the end of 1944, he was transferred to the west. Staszek was eventually sent to Dachau concentration camp, where he was liberated by the U.S. Army (Rainbow Division).
