oh my gosh!!!! I love this.... my Mom, Aunt and Grandma made this at least once a month growing up.... haven't had this in years but will make it now , I also love it with vinegar or horseradish...thank you for the blast from the past food I grew up on. When my daughter visited the Ukraine for the first time this summer she took a friend with her and she loved this dish but my daughter never told her what it was otherwise she wouldn't eat it... enjoy your day! I only add large onion & raw garlic, salt to taste, bay leafs, whole peppercorns, feet & hocks in a large pot & fill water & cook on low heat until half the liquid is gone. Can take 6-8 hours so you have to start it early. The liquid should be sticky on fingers when cooled slightly, which means it will gel. I cool it slightly so that I can handle the meat. I mash the meat with a fork & onion if any chunks were left. I scrape the inside of the skin & discard the skin. I distribute meat & liquid equally in bowls or flatter casseroles & place in fridge after it’s cool enough to eat next day. I slice the Zimne Nozki in pie like wedges or squares. I serve with vinegar & rye bread.

We have a similar, traditional dish in Hungary, called "kocsonya". We cook it without the vegetables and allspice, only with onion and lots of garlic. We sprinkle the top with black pepper and paprika and/or lemon juice before eating. My husband eats it with sliced onions in vinegar on the top. I'll give a try to this Polish recipe and the horseradish! Looks yummy!

I grew up eating this! My mother always secretly made me a special bowl with jelly and meat only, because I wouldn't eat the skin. To my parents it was a sin not to eat the skin lol. We always ate ours with vinegar but when I have it now I prefer lemon. I must make this soon! I think my mom called it galareta?Thanks Ania!

My Grandparents were Lithuanian. I learned this from my Father. I still make this now, but I remove the skin and supplement the meat with ham shank. Use the fat on toast and eat the rest with vinegar. Two pigs feet make enough for a week.

Hello is that 1 kilo of pork feet and 1 kilo of pork hock or is that some pork feet and pork hock which together adds up to 1 kilo?? Also is it 8 hours of cooking or 2 hours of cooking because the website is saying 2 hours of cooking?

Ania, what I was thinking was that with the proper canning process this dish could be made in volume then canned in Mason jars and stored at room temperature until you wanted it for a future meal. Then refrigerate, open and there you are. Possible?
@AniasKitchen
7 жыл бұрын
I have never done that but did some research on the internet and it seem in the old times they would do it all the time... when everything is ready you need to transfer it to mason jars up to the top, close and let it cool upside down. The liquid and meat has to be hot so i would bring it to a boil before filling the jars and meat we can make hot in the microwave I am sure!. They say it will keep up to 2 months!
