Sometimes it's hard to understand a Pole, even if you speak the same language. Why? There's some Polish proverbs that do not make sense to anyone else. Explore some of them with me and see if you understand :)
I chose excerpts from some of the iconic Polish comedies to illustrate the meaning of the phrases. These are as follows:
"Teddy Bear" ("Miś"), 1981, directed by: Stanisław Bareja
"Boys don't cry" ("Chłopaki nie płaczą"), 2000, directed by: Olaf Lubaszenko
"Kingsajz" ("Kingsajz"), 1988, directed by: Juliusz Machulski
"The Hitman" ("Kiler"), 1997, directed by: Juliusz Machulski
"Day of the Wacko" ("Dzień Świra"), 2002, directed by: Marek Koterski
"Two Hitmen" ("Kilerów dwóch"), 1999, directed by: Juliusz Machulski
"Sexmission" ("Seksmisja"), 1984, directed by: Juliusz Machulski
"The Cruise" ("Rejs"), 1970, directed by: Marek Piwowski
"All friends here" ("Sami Swoi"), 1967, directed by: Sylwester Chęciński
Soundtrack: Tymek Beszłej
Here's a link to the episode I was talking about (what I love and hate about Poland): • It's a bit #personal.....
