Nice video. You broke everything down great, wasn’t sure how to polish aluminum but this helped a lot thanks man!

I would use the compound first then mother's... Compound is much coarser than polish... Using the compound after is like sanding the rim with 2000 grit and finishing up with 1000 grit going backwards

Appreciate the input. The compound I use and the mothers both have about the same grit in it what it feels like. And I’ve always gotten better results with the red compound over the mothers. I’ll give it a shot next time though.

Would this process fix chemically stain wheels from wheel cleaner ?
@BMSmouthers

I imagine the aluminum wheel cleaner would stain the metal if you let it sit on it without wiping off. But polishing the aluminum will pretty much get all stains, water marks, and fine scratches out of the metal.

Great stuff, beautiful wheels. I'm in the same predicament, except I have work vs-edition wheels that have the bare aluminum around the gold rivets. So I have to actually polish in between the rivets. What a pain in the ass. I'm curious...if I remove all the rivets prior to polishing the lips, will I first have to completely air out the tires? (I'm stretched like you). I just don't want anything blowing up in my face lol, but I'd also hate for the tire to debead on me.

Sorry I never responded sooner. I’m just not seeing this. My new bbs rs wheels are the same way. It’s all polished around the hardware. It all depends on how the 3 piece wheel is mounted. (Face mount, sandwich mount, or rear mount) but to do it the correct way, would be to take tires off, break the wheels completely down, and polish the lips while apart. It’s a bigger process but it’s much easier to get the job done the right way with the best results

I have 19in cades tyrus on my z4, The polished rim used to look beautiful but over time got stonechips and wear so i sanded them down and sprayed the whole wheels black, Look ok but not as nice as the polished rims, I should have just sanded them down and polished them like you did i think, What about stone chips, How would you get stone chips out of the polished lip?.

I would look up three piece wheel hardware on google, and it’ll point you to a few different sites that carry different colors and sizes

Is the aluminium bare or clear coated?

Bare metal. If it was clear coated, polishing would have zero affect on it.
