Does rock get any bigger than this? Today’s classic arena anthem may just be the ultimate in 80s over-the-top excess in the best way possible. Written by one of Europe’s hardest hitting acts, well known for their animal magnetism... this tempest tore down just about every other rock track standing in its way. American audiences just couldn’t get enough of it. And I’m betting neither can you. So, get ready for a head banging worldwide force of nature, because this sonic storm is about to break loose... NEXT on the Professor of Rock.

So, it’s time for another edition of #1 in Our Hearts. This show honors songs that were so unbelievably great, they absolutely should've been #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. But for whatever reason, be it radio play, lack of marketing, label support or just sheer stupidity, the song came up short. Just to give you an idea of what this is all about, on previous episodes we have covered Panama by Van Halen, You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC, and Enter Sandman by Metallica. Today we are all about the Scorpion’s 80s kick it into overdrive anthem, Rock You Like a Hurricane.
: The Scorpions are without question the most accomplished German rock band in American music history. Having released over 50 albums since 1972... that’s including studio, live, compilation, or otherwise, and selling between 75 to 100 million records across the world... the Scorpions are a massive German juggernaut. And while we’re at it you can also credit them with 25 plus globally charting singles. But like all the best success stories, fame and fortune didn’t happen overnight.
Said guitarist Rudolf Schenker: "In the beginning of our career, we had a problem in Germany because nobody expects a German band to play rock music. With rock music, there are more bands from England or America, which are more exotic than the Scorpions... But when we went to America in '79, we became the exotic ones. They said, 'Hey, what kind of crazy guys are these?'”
Though the band was much less known here in the US through the 70s, there is no doubt that Americans liked what they heard when the Scorpions reached across the Atlantic in the 80s.
In 1980 the band released their seventh studio album, Animal Magnetism. That went gold in the US, and featured the non-charting single The Zoo.After Animal Magnetism, lead singer Klaus Meine underwent vocal cord surgery. But the band returned in 1982 with their commercial platinum plus breakthrough Blackout. The worldwide smash hit No One Like You led the way on that one.
