Many wildflowers, garden plants and crops rely on pollinating insects to set seed. Bees, wasps, flies, beetles (including ladybirds) butterflies & moths are all play their parts in pollination. They also play other essential roles such as being food for other animals, natural pest controllers or waste disposal agents. Pollinator numbers have been declining due to pesticide use and habitat loss, though some species are increasing their range in response to climate change. You can help track these changes and inform conservation work by reporting sightings or participating in various surveys and you don’t need to be an expert to contribute to many of these.
