Polygala myrtifolia, commonly known as a summer bush, is an evergreen shrub originating in South Africa. It can be 4-6 feet in height and width; can be trained into small tree to 12 feet high. Does well in full sun to some shade, but fewer flowers will bloom in shade. Great for showy accent color, background, screens, coastal gardens, and in heat. Purple to pink to white flowers with white brush-like tuft, periodically all year and peaking in spring. Green leaves are narrow, about 2 inches long. Requires low to medium water and less water with mulch; prefers well drained soil. Light pruning may be done to shape, but is not necessary if given adequate room. May be found in bed B of the Garden.
