Yes Ponte Tressa is a Swiss village situated right on the border separating Canton Ticino from the Italian Provence of Varese. Being Ticines i’ve been thru there a few times. Now my 3 year old Pontressa ( base trunk diameter 1.25 in) has been sickly, spindly riddled with FMV, set only 6 figs over it’s life which it aborted. So last May i cut it down to a 4 inch stub ( rejuvenation prune). 4 months later it’s shot out 5 leafy 18 inch arms- largest bout 3/8 in diameter- so still spindly BUT all healthy lookin dark green leaves, so sign of FMV blotches. Encouraging but remains to be seen if will set fruit. BTW Fig wasps showed up and colonized my 3 Capri fig trees profichi first time. They caprified lots of my common figs but there were no main crop caprifigs for them to perpetuate the colony. They’re in the area so i’m confident they’ll be back next season 🇨🇭🇺🇸

I visited an 89 year old Italian friend that lives 90 minutes from our farm and gave him some figs including one of these. He told he he had been through Ponte Tresa numerous times and I was glad to have given him some fruits from this tree as it was like I had taken him back in time.

My Ponte Tresa has been great this year, Harvey. It has produced ripe figs for 3 or 4 weeks, and is still going. Thanks for your videos!

Thanks for the review on the Ponte Tresa. I can't say on it's production since that's one (of many) I don't have. But my limited space just won't handle anymore at present. Still, it's good information I'll be keeping in mind. 👍

I'm very sure that the correct pronunciation of "Ponte" is like "Ponteh". The place is in Switzerland but within an Italian canton and the word itself means "bridge". With languages like Italian and Spanish, you can be sure that the letter "E" at the end of any word is always pronounced like "E" in "Ever" or "Emma". A good example is "Versace" which is traditionally wrongly pronounced in the USA as "Versachi", but the proper pronunciation is "Versacheh". So it's "Ponteh", not "Pont". Here's an example of the proper pronunciation of the word "ponte" by an Italian. kzitem.info/news/bejne/qJ2Qv595cnqXfmk

You may certainly be correct but a friend of mine from the region seemed to pronounce it the same as me. I do the best I can with the time available.

@Figaholics That's probably because, in the Lombard dialect, the place is called "Punt da Tresa". But dialects aren't official so I don't see a good reason to use them when pronouncing place names, especially when they have the official Italian spelling. Also, "Tresa" is actually pronounced as "Treza". If the spelling was "Tressa" then it would be pronounced with an "s" instead of "z".

southern Sacramento County. Not the hottest part of the state usually, but we hit a ridiculous 118F here two weeks ago and then turned cooler than normal and had an early rain two days after this video.

Nothing will compare to the taste of a california grown fig. We are wasting our time on the east coast growing this fruit.

Our fruits grown here are surely top quality but I have seen and read some pretty positive comments from some growers back east also. Even if they don't look as nice, they are reported to have very good flavor.
