How early do you start teaching grammar? True confession, my own could use some serious work!

We are using mct. I started with poodle and my son is a young 9 years old, and in 4th grade. We finished all the all about reading levels first. The way I am using it is reading the chapter on Monday and doing corresponding worksheets I find online t-th. On Friday we go over the worksheet in the poodle book together. I found it a lot much for us and considered switching but am sticking with it, and approaching it more casually. I looked ahead at Island level which I already bought, and it looks easier than Poodle. I am considering Poodle an introductory stage to transition from AAR to MCT.

That's my goal, to use it to bridge between MCT and AAR

We've been teaching my LO grammar since Kindergarten. She goes to an online class with mixed ages and started learning parts of speech there. It sparked an interest, so now we throw it in on our Friday Fundays! We purchased Word Fun from Timberdoodle (2nd Grade Curriculum) and it's such a fun book! Last week we learned about nouns and played a guessing game the book suggested at the end of the chapter. Beyond that, her writing curriculum, Write Shop, also introduces some grammar as well.

Thanks for this video! I’m considering doing this as a read aloud with my children over the spring and summer months - maybe just writing out the sentences and having them label them on a whiteboard together.

My 7½ year old reeeeally struggles -- which was not what I was expecting since my husband is genius (he was tested, actually, because he thought he had a learning disability and it turned out to be the opposite), and I did really well in school. My husband's family, however, all struggle in any intellectual endeavor. There's no way our 7yo could handle this any time soon, BUT I wanted to file it away because it looks super engaging, even for an older kid. Does this program do any sentence diagramming, whether in these three books or the ones that follow?

I'm using this level and the Island Level, level 1 essentially. I haven't encountered any diagramming as I've been familiar with it, the line structures. You do label the parts of speech in the practice sentences as well as phrases and clauses. My video on the other level might give you a better idea.

We LOVE the Poodle Trilogy! My daughter reads it by herself almost every day. She laughs through it, and so do I when we read it together. It's truly a lovely and gentle way to introduce grammar concepts to kids who are interested in that from an early age!

My daughter who is 10 and my 12 year old son are late grammar learners. I put it off because when I pulled them out of school their reading and spelling was HORRIFIC. 💀 Would your recommend poodle or island to begin with?

Island, poodle is maybe too young for them

Thank you for giving us a peek into Poodles! I have MTC scheduled starting in 3rd or 4th grade. We are working through EIW with my 1st grader this year and she loves it. I think I may add Poodles next year.

@@MakingEverydayMagic we also love AAR and AAS! We are wrapping up level two and will start 3 sometime in October. Like your daughter my daughter is still in the learning to read phase. One day we will get to that magical place of reading to learn. I love the foundation AAR provides.

We also are using the Poodle series with our 6, now 7 year old. We love how cute and gentle it is! I take the practice sentences and rewrite them on sentence strip. Then my son will label them with Montessori grammar symbols. We are only on the first book, and am looking forward to moving on the the others in the series. Did you know they will be publishing the fourth book of the series this fall? I have been keeping my eye out for it.
