After my pool gets warm I put a shade sail over it to keep it from getting too hot and growing algae.

Im a big fan of Trouble Free Pool. I've switched to primarily using liquid chlorine and avoid tabs and grainuals as much as I can to keep my CYA levels down. Thinking about converting it to a salt pool to avoid CYA issues.

The best thing I ever did to keep the algae away is put two pieces of copper in the skimmer, it really works, algae is no more

For my 20+ expirience I like water 22-26 degree Celsius. Water quality is more stable and using less chemicals. I change water every year and after many testing , now I using multitab ( all in one) big tablets 200gram directly in skimmer. First 2 than twice 1 .....I dont check water any more. But after rain I add 1 tablet ( if they only 1 there). In last 5 years I have only once problems with green water and best help only chlorine grain. Our pool ic 25cubic meter and we using it from may to end of august. I use filter balls, much better than sand filter. 😊

Lot to unpack there. Using only tabs to chlorinate your pool is constantly raising your CYA levels, making the chlorine less effective and necessitating more frequent water changes. There’s no need to do annual water changes unless you’re adding massively excess amounts of CYA to the pool. Using the skimmer basket for tabs is probably the last place you should be putting your tabs if you want to preserve the longevity of the skimmer, pump equipment and seals.
