Great solution, I had the exact same issue occur on my Jandy Stealth. Your video helped me spend $16 from Amazon instead of several hundred for a repair guy to come out. This took me about 15 minutes once I had the part. thanks.

That's great to hear - MUCH cheaper than if your pool guy came out! Thanks for letting me know

Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to make this video; I was able to confidently assess that my start capacitor went bad - I used a multimeter to double-double-check. Now that we're all looking to save every penny possible, this saved me a small fortune by taking the initiative to do it myself. Total cost of the part was $26 including tax. Amazing!

I had the same issue (humming and not starting). I checked the breaker at the pool and the breaker at the house and neither were flipped. I turned of and back on the breaker at the house and that did not fix the problem. I then turned off the breaker and back on at the pool breaker box and that DID fix the problem. So even thought he breakers did not appear to be flipped, turning it off then back on was sufficient. Also as a word of caution, capacitors can still be dangerous even if power is turned off at the breaker. A capacitor is a "battery" that stores up electricity in order to deliver a large jolt of power to "kick" the motor on then the lesser power through the breaker is sufficient to keep the motor going. This is the same with capacitors for hvac unit (in fact they are the same capacitors). If the capacitor itself fails then theoretically it holds no charge. And if the problem wasn't the capacitor, the charge would theoretically discharge itself into the motor when it is off. But if the problem was for example a wire to the capacitor rusted off, and the capacitor was unable to discharge to start the motor then it could still hold a charge when you go to service it even if the breaker is off. The shock from a capacitor is enough to possibly kill someone, lose a finger, or cause other injury. I know many hvac techs say it is very rare but it doesnt shock you until it does.So please be careful when serving near a capacitor and if you are going to touch the capacitor, please beforehand look up how to safely test and discharge a capacitor to ensure you don't hurt or kill yourself. I am always an advocate for diy but I also don't want anyone to get hurt or worse and leave their family without you.

Someone replied asking if it matters which wire goes on which post, but then deleted it - it doesn't matter - but make sure you connect each wire to a separate post - meaning, any of the 4 tabs on each side - one wire to one of the 4 posts, then the other wire to one of the OTHER 4 posts.

So glad to hear it! Yes, much cheaper repair than replacing the whole pump/motor!

Just in case a curve ball is tossed into the mix. I too have a Jandy pump that humms, then the circuit breaker pops. I tried the , rotate the prop, hit the motor with a rubber mallet, then I went with the next step. I bought a replacement capacitor. That worked once, then it went back to its old behavior. I decided to try a capacitor off one of the other motors. One motor for water feature, one for jacuzzi, and the main pool pump. The capacitor off the water feature pump worked perfectly. I assume i got either, the wrong replacement capacitor, or I bought a bad one. Either way, the capacitor was the culprit, and now it works fine. Good thing, My next call was to a pool repair service to replace the pump completely.

What if my pump doesn’t have that thing on top of it. What do I check?

The one he’s looking at is a run capacitor. If yours doesn’t have the hump on top it may have a start capacitor located at the back of the motor behind the housing.

hello, my pool pump is not work automatically these days, do you have any ideas? I have setup the speeds at 4 different times around the day. Now under the menu, all the speed 1-4 is scheduled. However, the quick start buttons for speed 1-4 showing: stopped. Anyone can help me figure out what is going on and how to change the settings? Thanks. (by the way, the pump can work manually well but pressing the start/stop button)

when it was humming, was it also triggering off the circuit breaker in the panel?
