Last horse I met, that the owner yelled at it. He ended up with a broken orbit (blinding him as he smashed the side of his face) and damaged his front feet at one of the jump shows she took him to. She kept him and every time he was sound for his feet, she'd ride him at jump shows. He was a good horse when she wasn't around, but as soon as he heard her on property, he'd kick, bite, and act up all sorts. The only reason she had him was to ride him in shows. When I left the barn I worked for, she finally sold him to the farm for retirement (he was so sour she couldn't touch him anymore), but she brought in a new trackner for doing shows the same as she did with her blinded horse. I heard later that the horse was taken to a cross country show and died on the course. Was a jump at the top of a hill and then one right at the bottom with only maybe a horse length (if that) from the down side of the hill to set up for the jump there. Friend told me that the poor horse was whipped because he broke his leg and she didn't even care enough until the horse got up and his leg was broken badly. I never saw that horse besides when it arrived, but if she rode him the way she rode the horse I had known. That horse was probably soured, already hurting, and or that last jump was something it possibly didn't have the skill to handle with a angry rider. Seen too many riders who thought they were the best riders and treated their horses like it was the horse's fault for fidgeting, kicking out, and dancing around when the rider couldn't sit still or properly. These riders cuss and yell if they are corrected, the horse gets confused and starts to try to do everything that the rider is telling them to do, then jam the bit to pull the horses head one way or the other because they are getting angry at a poor confused horse who doesn't know why they are being punished for trying.

Grown men on stallions would ride into my gelding during warm ups. I was a young woman, living my dream. I was self supported and struggled with some aspects. But putting the work and love into my horse was easy. Exclusion and bullying happen everywhere, mine happened in Victoria, Australia. It's a joy to ride along with you, in spite of these nasty incidents you have to endure! Honestly to be able to ride trails like this would be such a privilege (we don’t have ones available like this where I live). But after seeing some of the people you come across I’m not sure I would want to ride them after all

Can’t believe that happened to the lovely Farouk. The way she was shouting and being aggressive with her horse it’s no wonder it behaves badly. She knew full well her horse kicks and didn’t give a damn, people like her should be banned from group outings. Glad you’re both ok.

I was thinking the same. I live in Germany and the insurances are really good. Sadly the rider of the kicker was ignorant and rude, things can happen when a bunch of riders are out together but you can at least ask and check if the horse is okay. If not, the insurance covers all costs. Even a slight kick can cause bad injuries.

@@lizroberts1569 here in Germany you can't find a stable to keep your horse without insurance, you can even rent land to put your horse on without insurance, too many accidents happen and horses can do a lot of damage, it's more or less law here in Germany

@@lizroberts1569 that is no good. Just imagine if your horse does do damage or even worse gets out and causes an accident 😱 I wouldn't sleep at night if my horses didn't have an insurance. People shouldn't keep animals if they can't pay for the proper care they need and that includes insurances. I have two horses and two greyhounds, all are insured and the dogs have a health insurance too.

Glad you are both ok. I was always told to ensure I kept well beyond kick range and never assume anything. In all my years I think I've only once seen a tail ribbon on fun rides like this, but I very much doubt that none of the other horses were novice, or didn't kick. Ribbons seem to have just fallen by the wayside.

That rider's behavior during the entire hack was absolutely horrifying, demeaning to her own self, and dangerous for all of the riders and their horses. The way she screamed and practically beat her horse whenever it balked... not to mention her negligence of mentioning that her horse kicks or wearing a ribbon (whether it be green or red)! I am amazed at your level-headedness and patience but I do hope you mentioned her behavior to one of the organizers or supervisors... that was unacceptable behavior for sure

Such poor riding (not to mention serious lack of manners!) from the kicker's rider. She didn't even ask if you were okay?! Anyone who has to resort to screaming at their horse like that lacks skills and confidence. She needs to go back to basics with a really good trainer on a horse that matches her skill set before venturing out again. So glad Farouk didn't sustain a serious injury. His calmness and confidence to continue are testimony to your skill. Beautiful partnership.

Poor Farouk, he will have to have a lot of carrots, apples or even is best treat, aka his naughty treat. He did very well, bless him. Also the kicker's rider horse: to me it looks like the horse doesn't respect or even trust the rider. Or I'm reading to much into it?

Really bad, especially bc horse was shod! Poor Farouk! I am so glad he was ok. 😥😥❤ Totally unacceptable behavior on the rider's part; she should work with her horse so it doesn't do this. Also shld have red ribbon. I don't think I've been this tense on a ride since that woman couldn't get her horse to cross a stream with two crops and a lot of yelling. It makes me so sad for the horses bc some people just shldn't be allowed. Imagine the stress that horse must be under to feel like another horse coming up behind him is so much a threat.

That is horrific, and I can't even believe she didn't even bother to make sure you and your horse were okay. I used to show a kicker (in huntseat, and we always make sure to put a red ribbon on her tail), and if she had ever done something like that I would be mortified and freaking out and making sure everyone is okay. Plus, they refused to let you pass, even when you asked. It's poor horsemanship all around.

Well Tara, I was uncomfortable that whole ride. Not only the horses, but a few of the people. Not a group I would be anxious to join again. Farouk looks like it was minimal damage, however, the same thing happened to my Thoroughbred. I think mine was more thoroughly injured with a direct blow (kick) but the point is it can be problematic in time. I know you are aware of these things and Farouk will be fine. Those shoulders just scare me. Sending you and Farouk good energy.

Hi Tara, I was just watching the video from a few months ago when poor Faroukles got kicked by that bay with the woman with the horrible temper. Screaming and yelling in public and abusing her horse. She should not be allowed to own horses, and should be reported to the Animal Welfare People for her abominable treatment of her horse on that ride. You are much calmer than me, I am afraid she and I would have had words because of her disgusting treatment of her animal. No wonder it kicks, it must be scared silly of that lady, heaven knows what goes on at her yard. Thanks for letting me vent. Jane 😎👍🐎🐴🧑🏻🦰
