Black-eyed Susan's are a great clay soil plant along with Echinacea.

So many pretty plants. I think a pocket garden is like a pocket-sewn on three sides- so smaller plants on three sides.

Thank you Corey for this video. What a great tip to go to Walter’s garden site. I am always stumped with grasses! I will check out EZ scape also. Thanks for all your time and hard work. I look forward to your posts!

The baptisia is one I've never tried. I'm definitely going to get the blue, yellow and honey roasted. Love how they rattle if you leave the flowers. So beautiful. Definitely going to get next yr.

I’ve made bouquets using the pods of the baptisia plants. When they turn brown I cut the stem and then put in a container for decoration inside. It’s one of my favorite plants. It can get pretty wide.

Oh wow, how exciting. I didn't know the hibiscus could be planted in clay soil. I have been looking for that statement piece for my backyard. Thanks for the information.

Well. I have all those plants, including approximately 80 varieties of daylilies. My hibiscus is the "Chiffon Double White and I trim it by a third each spring. It is over 7' tall this year and covered in blooms. I absolutely love the baptisia and use the flowers and stems in bouquets. I now need to find the needle-leafed amsonia because it has the airy look of a coreopsis. And I agree about their blue flowers, it's a beautiful spring plant. My only quibble is with the Russian sage. I have no love for that plant, and I've been trying to get rid of it for over 15 years now. It's definitely winning the battle 😂

Very informative ❤ Looking forward to the sandy soil one because that's what I have. I actually dug up a plant for my husband to take to his dad and his dad said Why did Kathy put all this sand in here instead of the garden soil ...Sand is my soul lol

Thank you for this! I've never considered grasses before! Be careful where you plant daylillies as the deer will trample other plants to get to the buds.

Thanks Corey! I have pure sand soil 5A. The hardy hibiscus are beautiful and I've had them 10 years. Russian sage, coneflower & daylilies do great here as well. My favorite are the grasses. We have 9 varieties so far and all of them will be put around our new deck. I love to see them swaying in the wind. We've found some clumps of native big bluestem on our property but it's probably too aggressive for that area. I love it though :) Can't wait for the sandy soil video!

As long as those hibiscus are watered well during their first season, they are quite adaptable.

I love all the information you provide. I live in Pennsylvania. How can I tell if I have a hardy hibiscus that I can plant in the ground? I bought 2 that are in containers but did not say which kind it is. They have been blooming non stop since the middle of may.

If they were blooming since May, they are tropical hibiscus. They won’t survive outdoors though a Pa winter. You’ll need to ask at your local garden center for a hardy hibiscus.

Very difficult to dig up. I let it re-seed in a place where I shouldn't have, and now I can't dig it out.

I’ve been lucky not having to deal with serious clay soil. It’s a real struggle for those who do.

My clay soil is like powder after 3 years without rain. I'm losing plants even though I'm watering.
