I met Robin Williams when I just turned 17 at this Premiere of “Popeye” in 1980. I snuck into the back entry so the first thing I ran into was the press table and was caught off guard when I was asked by a reporter (A 17 year old me who wasn’t anybody…and hadn’t been to the screening.) “What did you think of the film?”: to which I answered in a bit of a stammer “I th-th-thought it was good.” To which the reporter snarkily said: “May we quote you on that?” out of the corner of my eye I saw a man coming towards the table and towards me at a brisk pace wearing a top hat and tails and wielding a cane who grabbed me by the shoulder and whisked me way. It was Robin Williams who obviously saw the awkward moment I was having and decided to rescue me from the snarky reporter. He then asked me if I was having a good time which I said I certainly was and then asked if he could borrow my camera to which I said certainly. Robin then grabbed the camera put his arm around my shoulder and took a selfie of the two of us together. The bad news is the photo did not turn out but if I’m able to find the negative again I’m sure I can fix the washed out image digitally! The good news is the image in my brain of that event is quite clear, thank you Robin for sharing a moment with this 17 year old kid, I will never forget it as long as I live. Seeing these photos has reminded me again of what a special night this was, thank you. :) -wf

I wonder if John Lennon was able to see this movie? 🤔

The date reminded me of that aweful day, too. I highly doubt it, he was giving a lot of interviews and busy recording.
