You gave a good explanation of each of the different profiles types. The problem with your sound test is that the switches affect the sound more than the keyscap/profiles. To do a fair test, you would need to use identical switches across all keycap profiles.

Yeah. I didn't have any oem keycap left so I used an old video. All the other profiles use the same switch and keyboard

Serious Last Airbender vibe with your transitions... Great descriptions... I have a number of keys switched and programmed with VIA because of arthritis and love the XDA keycaps, because I can switch keycaps between rows to make it easier to type

Great job! Might want to fix the chapters for the sound tests. The last chapter is the SA Profile that apparently lasts until the end of the video. Not to mention the sculpting makes it that every key feels like a little cushion that is just waiting to receive your finger when it presses it. That little groove for the finger in the middle is so fun to type on. There is something rather special about the sound profile of SA keycaps. I find that Keychron's KSA (their own take of the SA profile) enhances that signature sound even more. I think that it'll be hard to get me to stop using KSA keycaps. If you already love SA check them out!

Cool, thanks. I love the dimensions of the Magic Keyboard's keycaps (length and width only), which profile has the flattest and widest upper surface among the 5? Are there other profiles that are not low-profile keycaps that have flat upper surfaces and is as wide as the Magic Keyboard's keycaps? Thank you.
@lunosama

The flattest among the 5 here would be the XDA profile. But yes, there are more low profile keycaps similar to the magic keyboard, however, they require different low profile switches.

@@lunosama Thanks. I'd love to start a group buy wherein, the keycap is the length and width of the Magic Keyboard but the height is not low profile, the height could be a Cherry or a MT3 (latest profile designed by Drop they say), some keys will have different textured (while remaining flat, no convex or concave but it could be sculpted, doesn't have to even on the keyboards, just the surfaces of this new profile I'd love to see come into existence is perfectly flat) like the F1, tilde, Shift, Tab, Control will have a different texture, the Return will be an ISO to prevent hitting the backspace or right Shift when touch typing. What website should I attempt to have my profile in mind created? By the way this is the best way to experience the best typing experience, it'll need a bit of rigging: the best place for keyboard and mouse or pen (as a mouse) is a millimeter above your lap. One needs to create a rig, a long and wide as a long deskmat with arms that go in and out and goes up and down so it's easy to push it out of the way if you need to get up. A temporary unstable, less elegant & uncomfortable solution is putting the keyboard on the lap (but the reaching for the mouse would be annoying) or using a 'Lapboard' like the one Linus of Linus Tech Tips uses for his home and then combine that with a decent brand legendary mesh chair (doesn't need to be Herman Miller) that has 4D armrests (you can angle it in towards your stomach), it's the best typing and the most healthy for the palms cause your palms are "floating" over the key vs. a great palm rest on the desk (even if it's ergonomically aligned to your arms). God bless.

@SevenDeMagnus the height of XDA profile is 9.1 and is constant throughout the rows. And the the width, I'm not sure how to put this but all profiles have the same or almost the same width because they have to fit in the keyboard. As for me, regarding appearance, I like tall profiles like SA and MT3, but when typing the best comfortability would be a low profile keyboard.

I prefer XDA profile keycaps but when it comes to the spacebar, the cherry profile gives a thockier sound. Im new to keyboard modding so should i just insert some tape under the xda spacebar to test it out?
@lunosama
6 ай бұрын
Tape does help give that deep sound and it's an easier method. One of the effective way is to paste a little bit of tape on the ends of the stabilizer wires and lube it. Gives a deep sound

what would you say the keycap for like marbley,creamy sound?
@lunosama
24 күн бұрын
@ego5267 i can't say one for sure because the sound is mostly determined by the board and the switch, so it completely depends on the build you have. If you have a very light board that sounds hollow almost, keycaps like Cerakeys make it sound better. But if you have a good board and switch, almost any plastic keycap will give you a creamy sound. Using thocky keycaps like cerakey with a good board usually gives you a very low pitched thock, which I don't personally prefer. I just summarised most of the points with a general example, so I hope I didn't confuse you.

To be honest, I'm not comfortable with compact keycaps that has no separation in the F keys. It's just personal preferences and I didn't like using it. But if you want to know the pros, it is customisable and has a decent build for the price range

I'm super new to all of this so maybe I'm misunderstanding information but honestly, the (lack of) height differences surprise me. Cherry is low profile (?) but it looks the same in height as all of other ones except SA. I just bought Glorious Aura V2 keycaps which say they are OEM, and they are much lower in height compared to my OSA keycaps. Which is totally in contrast to what is said and shown here (the OEM almost looks a smidge taller, or at least the same height) as well as on other videos, which have said OSA and OEM are both medium height... Is height unrelated to profile? I.e.: you can have OEM profile but low height?
@lunosama
Жыл бұрын
So yeah, the OEM has a specific height and just as cherry and any other profile has. Height usually differs from profile to profile, cherry is a bit shorter than OEM, and OEM is shorter than SA. Now OSA is different, it's a combination of OEM and SA profiles, it has the height of OEM profile and the shape of SA. The video might not have given the viewers a clear perspective of the heights, but like I said before, each profile has a specific height and shape, which doesn't change even if it is manufactured by different companies.

@lunosama

Xda definitely gives a slightly thockier sound that OEM in my opinion, but SA also gives thocky sound but with a hint of hollowness. But if you are looking to make the board really thocky without modding or changing the switches, I suggest you look at Cerakey's ceramic keycaps. They make any oars sound super thocky

For me, best for typing and gaming will always be Cherry :( I switched to XDA from OEM but I found myself getting typos every now and then. Also, the XDA became a bit tiring for me when gaming due to maybe the wide surface area. But the sound is a bit creamier/poppier than OEM, IMO. Cherry keycaps are lowered so I guess they're easier to type on and less fatiguing in the long run?
@lunosama

Yeah, personally, I make less typos on low profile Keyboards, but the sound, cherry profiles the base standard now
