For a variety of reasons different now than when it was written, the title of this song is sadly very relevant today... Saw them twice in a row this fall; couldn't resist!

The title is of the Heaven’s Gate tape, named by their leader (and the man speaking in the video), Marshall Applewhite. They rented a mansion in California in 1997 and ended their own lives under a suicide pact, with the belief that their spirits would be transported into the next life/cycle/dimension on the Hale-Bopp Comet that was passing by Earth around the time. Steven Wilson has spoken of his curiosity with America’s history of fascination with religious cults when introducing this song live. Side note: the dialogue that can be heard in Strip The Soul is an excerpt from a Heaven’s Gate documentary where a family is attempting to reach out to their daughter who has been lost to the cult.

@@brianbjur4796So that’s what that is! Always wondered where the audio on Strip came from. That’s actually really interesting. I always thought it was just a bit of dialogue from a movie or something. Perfect message before the absolute doom that washes over the track there though. First time I heard that song i turned it up to try to hear what the dude was saying… then got my ears blasted by that chord lol. Excellent song.

@@MadCritter , I feel sory for your ears. I know how terrible the sensation is - not by that song, but by many others.

@@filosofoneysarrandoanitta341 Yeah, hearing damage is no joke. Worry not though, I’m quite conscious of it and do my best to minimize any situations in which it could occur.

I'm so happy to see Porcupine Tree back together even if Colin is not there. Stopped following Wilson after his Future Bites promo, thought it was weird/insensitive. Not sure i respect him as a person anymore, but will always respect him as a musician. This song is incredible and the live performance here is magical! PS great recording btw!

Future Bites is crappy, really. But Porcupine Tree will always be an amazing band.

There's much time since I knew this speech came from a TAPE. But I always assumed it was an audio tape, not a video tape. It's a big surprise to discover, just today, that the man recorded it in video.
