Hello Nick! As an M4 owner, i had come across a few of your M4 videos before. Now that i've placed my GTS order, more of your videos came up on my 911 GTS searches. Since, apparently, we tend to like the same cars, i just subscribed to your channel. Personally, i like the GTS, not only for the once more prestigious series name badge, but also for all the sports oriented extras it gives me at a cheaper price, with the wider body (i don't like 4wd). By the way, i like the fact you also went with the manual transmission. All my fun cars have to be manual!

Ok Nick, you did it again! You can't hide your hate about the GTS... By the way, Euro delivery is back! I'm just coming from Europe where I did 6k road trip on a GTS and JES, never cross my mind having less power and less handling capacity. On the Nurburgring, it's was totally impressive and on the ALPS, never get tired because of the suspension, always super comfy even after full day driving. Did the German autobahn (where you MUST put the firm suspension setting at very high speed), Austrian, Italian, French and Swiss ALPS. Also the Mediterranean coastal roads and nothing to complain about the GTS. I was waking up at night and thinking: "Are we morning yet, are we morning yet" Here some FACTS: 1. You CANNOT order a Carrera S with the wide body like the GT3 (4wd out of the question when you know how to drive and Porsche proved it by not putting the AWD on the GT3 and the GT2). This is enough argument to order a GTS right there. 2. On the Nurburgring (The absolute reference for sports cars), the GTS do it in 7m24s and the Carrera S in 7.34. 10 second faster, than the S and even faster than the Ferrari ENZO! This is great performance for just little more money than the S. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nürburgring_Nordschleife_lap_times 3. The front lip RARELY touch the ground, only when I was doing the Stelvio pass because the turn was so tight and it was fun anyway to hear the front lip touching the alsphat because you take the curve too fast! By the way, the front lip is made of cheap black plastic and it's designed to be changed without spending big $. 4. On the autobahn, the GTS manual 7 speeds can do 200mph, not the S! kzitem.info/news/bejne/zGOk36FqiGmop20 5. About the Centerlock wheels, when you have a flat tire, you call Porsche assitance because you don't want a grease monkey touching your car anyway. Also, never heard you complaining about the Turbo S, GT3 or GT2 wheels (Centerlock also)... Finally, the rims are larger than the ones you can get on the Carrera S (.5 inches) so that's another things that is not possible to upgrade on a S. 6. The sound insulation is different on a GTS providing more engine noise inside the car. Also another option not available on the S... 7. About the black theme, I was prepared to add all those option on the S before the announced the GTS so it's a huge $ saving to have it all on the GTS. If you don't like it, you can change it to std config as well as the Alcantara interior for 0$ 8. The GTS represent the most desirable 911 to drive on roads for performance/confort and you can also take it on the track, it will perform pretty good. The GT3 is really tough to get and a lot more expensive. Turbo and Turbo S are 4wd and PDK only so only for baby boomers (no offense). Keep making videos Nick so I can correct you when you talked about the 911 GTS :) Regards.

To give you a more complete answer... I totally agree with all your points (well aside from 3 and 8) of course the GTS is faster as I said in the video, my point is that to get the small amount of extra performance you sacrifice some of the fun, joy and convenance of owning and driving a 911. A GTS is faster but back to back the base Carrera is more fun to drive every time.
@claudeauclair4771
6 жыл бұрын
Fact #3, I think the front lip might hit the road in city driving (speed hump, etc) but didn't experience it in GTS driving (Grand Touring Sport). That might explain our different experience between Nick & I. By the way, Nick 911 front lip looks more damaged than the GTS one... Probably because the GTS is new, I know. Finally, Porsche offer the front axle lift option so not a real problem since there is a solution when you ordered. GT3 and GT2 are way worse and Nick do not bitch about them, why is that possible? (see my explanation at end of Fact #8) Fact #8, the GTS is a Grand Touring Sport, if that's your kind of usage, it's the car for you. You do racetracks, buy a GT3 or a GT2. You do city driving most of the time, bought a Carrera. If you bought a Carrera S before the GTS was available, do like Nick, bitch about the GTS...
@aviator-kn8zq

@@claudeauclair4771 damn you're aggressive aren't you ? The Carrera is wide enough for the 991 and you're actually saying Porsche Assistance will help with the annoying centre locks which cost a lot to replace. It is faster because of the power kit engine like a simple tune, not a specific engine like the GT3. GTS is extra harsh and if you like the front lip scrapping dont expect others to agree too. Sure the GTS is the sportiest Carrera but its in no way a special specific built Carrera like the GT3, when you can option out the same thing in a S. It's a package model simple as, a sporty package model with so called race options.

These two cars with manual transmissions & non professional drivers almost invalidate the experiment, The GTS was clearly the faster, you can see it pull ahead between gear changes, the GTS driver seemingly messed up every gear change. I'd expect the more commonly supplied PDK semi auto gearbox cars to produce a different outcome and in favor of the GTS.

Interesting video Nick. I also had to make the choice of 2S or GTS. Went with the 2S and am loving it. PASM -10 still needs some care, a further -10, plus longer overhang would definitely require a lot of caution and the $A6k front lift option in Sydney. That doesn't make for a relaxed daily driver. I was also a little sceptical about the alcantara and the dull look of the satin black centre locks. The RS Spyder wheels take a little more effort to clean but look great when you do. Overall, although you get a discount with the options in GTS pack, in my case it offered a number of options I was not fussed about. The S with PDK and sport chrono is way fast enough for my licence. Love your channel!

What? This guy sold his Mercedes-AMG GT S to buy a 911 GTS. It does pay to do your homework before you buy a car which is right for you. Otherwise, it will be, buy trade-in, buy trade-in. Again, the 911 GTS is a matter of personal choice. You need to weigh up whether it's worth paying the extra cost. I think you cannot go wrong if you buy any 911 CS/C4S with the options you want. Nick, you were being very nice about this car, it seems you held back just a little. Hi Nick, there is one thing, that should be kept in mind. There have been dyno-tested several stock GTS and Carerra S in germany and the Carrera S had a range from 423 hp to about 440 hp. The GTS had a range from 451-476 hp. All cars were completely stock! So if you compared a good Carrera S at the top of the range with a GTS at lower range, it is no suprise at all what happened. So this only makes sense if you dyno-check the cars before testing. My GTS - also a manual -for ex. had measured 469 hp stock. And by the way after some little adjustments (exhaust + air filter) it now has 492 PS. :-)

Anything you may consider in performance comparisons has been thought about by Porsche a thousand times. There 911 variants are stacked for a reason: to create performance variance from model to model. The GT3 runs Nurburgring in 7.13; the GTS in 7.23; and the Carrera S in 7.34. Yes, they are all highly capable super cars, but there is performance variance. The GTS and Carrera S times cited were achieved by the same test driver.

I am absolutely delighted with my 10 week old GTS in GT silver. With a GTS you still need to order a custom build though and I find the long wait really tries my patience. I use mine every day so I have PASM -10mm rather than S-PASM -20mm. I have black leather with 18-way seats in place of the 4-way alcantara that come as standard. I have a torque wrench and break bar kit in a nice neat case that fits perfectly in the trunk; I bought it on Amazon. My options added 21 percent to the price and include adaptive cruise and blind spot monitoring, front axle left, glass sunroof, PDK, multi function steering wheel, keyless entry and drive and rear wheel steering. I also have power steering plus, folding mirrors (I set them to turn in when the car is locked so I can tell at a glance if it's locked) rear wiper and comfort lighting. I also added some purely cosmetic bits including brushed aluminium trim, silver belts, aluminium PDK shifter, crests on the seat backs and stainless door sills because the standard ones are too short. I left the GTS logo on the doors and the rear end but it does look a little busy and had I ordered a 4 GTS I would likely have trimmed it back to just 911. If I was ordering it today I would add ventilated seats.

Car statistics only tell half the story.

Ok, so I have viewed your video's in the past and have found that they are usually fairly accurate and informative. However, I feel compelled to comment on this one. Just returned from Stuttgart after doing some research on the X51 Powerkit upgrade for my 2017 C2S (sport package already optioned). I had the opportunity to drive a 2018 Porsche 911 2018 GTS on the Nurburgring (courtesy of RSR) and decided to do the install once I returned to the states. I updated my car on March 19th of this year. Based on my Aim Solo data logger, my 0 to 60 average time decreased from 3.42 to 3.27 after 15 launches on two separate outings. The 1/4 mile trap time decreased as well by just shy of 3 tenths of a second (I would be happy to email you the screen shots). I actually live close-by in New Canaan and would be willing to challenge your C4S against my C2S with the Powerkit (no other upgrades) at your availability. We could wager a cheeseburger at the Shake Shack in Westport? I do not believe your car can compare in any rolling comparison. It might be possible to catch me on the 0 to 60 launch with 4 wheel drive, but you would be hard pressed even in that regard... your call!
@NickMurray
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Richard. I think you mis-heard this video, I said several times that the power kit engine is more powerful, I have never disputed that. It is only a very small increase in power (as shown by your .15 second 0-60 improvement) but a power kit engine will beat a standard S engine in a race normally. Personally I don't think the extra power is worth the trade off for the additional turbo lag and the issues the Power kit engine owners seem to face but you have to balance with your own views and requirements of course. I think anyone wanting more power out of their 3.0L engine would be happier with a very mild tune to say 480hp. That only costs $1,500 and the results are far more noticeable without the extra lag?

I own the 2018 gts. If you don't own one you cannot comment. Taking a car for a spin or review is not the same as owning it and driving it everyday. Porsche always underestimate their speed capabilities and mine has been timed at just over 3 SECS 0-60 and 200mph. I have not had a problem with turbo lag , you only get this if you don't know how to drive the thing. I test drove the whole range even the gt3, great car but not an everyday driver. The gt3 is the pick of bunch.

Great review. I’m still a bit confused on which 991.2 models have wider rear ends. GTS yes. Not the C2S or 4S? Finally, for the money, I’m interested in missing the largest turbo swap possible in stock location. Does this mean the Carrera T is the car for me? Minus the wide rear end? But then need AP Racing brakes. Sooo..maybe GTS or C2S after all?

Nick you make a great point on the size of the turbos and responsiveness vs power. As enthusiasts, we’d like both....but as you’ve mentioned elsewhere, the output of the 911s (up and down the range) is enough-to-more-than-enough. So, I’d wager the base motor would be my favorite too.....if only it came in a manual! Keep up the good work!

Though the power difference is only about 7 percent between the GTS and S, there would be more to be gained with a software tune (On the GTS) due to the larger turbos being able to flow more on the top end.

Sam was smart to get out of his AMG GTS, because Mercedes FINALLY updated the A-Class interior, which is shared with the GT range. So when the new GT range hits, the values of the old will plummet... worse than normal LOL BTW Love the Miami Blue!

Great fun! I have never considered that my 4S would be faster than a Gts. I wonder if the 4S with the double clutch woul does better because it would eliminate the “time lost” in switching gears. I also agree with Nick-the base 12:53 Carrera. the most fun in sudden acceleration is the base. Nick give us a review of the hybrid 911. Can wait to drive test one of them.

There is one thing that can't be added to C2S in options... GTS has wider rear body and only for this feature it is worth to buy GTS instead of C2S. Of course this applies only to rear wheel drive models, C4S has the same body as GTS models.

I would now any day get a powerkit on a regular S than buy a GTS.. why? I get to keep the regular ride height and standard nose with a better approach angle. The GTS would keep scraping underneath ... and it has those silly centre lock wheels

Not sure if anyone asked this yet but the first thing that came to my mind was: has the GTS even been broken in yet? The second thought was that the driver of the GTS appears to not be very comfortable driving a three pedal manual.

I wonder how much the four-wheel drive system contributes to to the base car performance ? Putting all that power through four wheels instead of two kinda makes sense.

Centre locks are an absolute load of bollocks I had them on my 991.1GTS. They also go milky and cost £1k a set to replace. AVOID!

Hi Nick. It looks to me he was pulling away from u initially until he had to shift, then he fell behind. So it is possible he is still not very comfortable pushing a manual car combined with slow shifting and I suspect since the car is still new he was shifting too soon and before the RPM approaches redline. These new engines are incredible though, I own 991.2 4S targa which is heavier than your car and On track, I was able to match or beat slightly my times while driving my 991.1 GT3 on same track, which was surprising considering the GT3 has 475 hp, vs 420 hp on my targa, and also PDK vs manual on targa, but it just goes to show u how good is this new car with the turbo engine. Said that, I also had a chance to drive the 991.2 GTS on barber Motorsports during one of Porsche driving school events and it is incredibly fast and I was able to keep up with 911 GT3 RS, which I was not able to do with the 911 S 991.2, so I think the GTS would be a bit faster in the right hands. Great video. Mark

Hey Nick so funny to hear you say how the GTS is “just a little bit faster”. Well got good news the other day , my GTS IS ON THE BOAT sh/ be taking delivery end of the month...I told you that I passed on the Alcantara interior , now if I get rid of those amazing black wheels (probably not happening) you would have to admit that my car is far and away the better 911 ..😜

Is such a low mileage standard in expensive-car warranties? 50k isn't a lot (nor is 4 years, frankly). That doesn't bode well for anticipated reliability on an older or higher mileage car.

I think the point I make over and over is that the GTS is slightly faster but the price paid is a less comfort and more turbo lag.

Great Video Nick. Miami Blue in photos looks either light blue or even a shade of green in others. Does the video represent the colour accurately? Thinking about a Carrera T in Miami Blue but cant find a 911 in the colour to see in person.

Nick, do you think the glass roof works with lighter colors like Miami Blue? I’m not sure I like the contrast as it distracts from the basic 911 shape.

It’s the perfect 911! It’s more than just a hyped up S with more HP. Everything is tuned up to a 10.5 from a 10! It matters! 8% is just the power! It’s not the performance. The fact that you think that you want to drag race a 911 is absurd. It’s a sports car not a muscle car. This is why the GTS is the last model to be introduced prior to the new models being introduced.
