Well done. Can't wait to see the 200th video! I agree with what you said about the way they drive. My 91 GT handles bumps and pot holes etc far better than any modern car I've driven. It doesn't crash and bang at all, you can really get it around the corners too! I think car manufacturers could learn a thing or two from it! So nice to see the old girl going so well. You've done an amazing job from where you started. Now on to getting her looking as good as she drives!

Well done Todd! You also described your first experience of the 928 ‘way’ of moving down the road with ease, comfort, quality and control. It’s special feeling transcends all 928 models and make long journeys enjoyable. By the way, adjusting the throttle cable to make sure the throttle is actually fully open at full peddle mash could liberate a better drive up Harry’s Hill too! Next a trip to Europe? 😅
@MrToddgibbs

Hi Peter, on first inspection (unfortunately) it seems I adjusted the throttle correctly when I installed it :(
@petero2778
Жыл бұрын
When I replaced my throttle cable it also made a big difference to the responsiveness. No stretch. The auto’s kick-down cable is another culprit for sluggishness. Not sure if the 3 speed has it though. Anyway, given the car’s ‘proven’ reliability, you’ll have to start planning a trip to the south of France! 😉
@MrToddgibbs

So the throttle cable seems adjusted ok, but there were other gremlins in there causing issues... And, yes! I would love to do a long roadtrip. Either across to France/Germany or up to Scotland...

Congratulations on the 100 th Video. It was great seeing the 928 handle being out and about enjoying the scenery of the British country side all day. Very much enjoyed seeing the little towns. I would have enjoyed seeing where you stopped for lunch and what you guys had. The countryside actually reminds me so much of Ireland. I spent many years there now I live in Orlando Florida usually 28 Celsius to 35 Celsius all years round and 280 days on average per year with sunshine. Your channel made me add a 1984 Porsche 928 automatic red with black interior and only 17,200 miles to my collection. Perfect Interior too. And just recently did a 400 mile round trip in it without missing a beat. Even the air conditioning blew cold thank god! Looking forward to seeing the progress on your 79’ 928 and seeing you tackle the interior. That should be interesting! Enjoy your summer! 👍🏼

Ah yes, somewhere in my video comments I explain my theory about the seats (In short, I think they were bought when they changed the interior to black. Im guessing they were cheap (rips in the cloth) and were retrimmed... but the headrests were ok, so remained original)

@G928...

Glad the car went well and especially that you enjoyed it after putting so much work into it. That "clunking" noise is a difficult one, does it tend to happen more related to road surface ie bumps, than anything like when changing gear or accelerating?
@MrToddgibbs
Жыл бұрын
Thanks :). The clunk is only over bumps. Not speed or engine rpm related. Stops if I lightly press the brake pedal…. I’ve checked everything I can. Callipers and pads are all secure. All nuts&bolts on the rear suspension are tight (it’s coming from the rear). Hopefully you can hear it clearly(it does it throughout this video… always a CLUNK Clunk clinch (line something vibrating) Any ideas ?

I’ve checked the gearbox mounts, they seem ok and bolted tight. Exhaust isn’t touching anything. I could remove the rear section and drive without it to test but pretty sure it’s clear. Rear hatch is slightly loose, but it’s not that. It sounds like it’s coming from rear driver-side (UK car)

From what I can see all rear suspension is tight. I’ve spent a lot of time under there checking it all over. @@MrToddgibbs did ths also with no experience. But I know what you mean. I built a G28/11 manual transmission, changed theb3rd rear synchro which is uncommon to fail in The later Borg Warner transmission. I also added the early 8 disk limited slip from the car's original automatic transmission. I had sonswap everything behind the engine included the rear crossmember to adapt for the late model trans. New tongue tube twin disk clutch with the center ring and flywheel. I built a 5.0 Euros hybrid engine which is the Euro 4.7 heads, cams, and k jet intake from the 310-330 hp version 1980 -1985 and put on an American 5L short block. You needs to dissemble the entire short block to remove the 4 valve pistons and fly cut them for the larger 2 valve heads, inspect everything and reassemble the shortblock and install all the euro stuff on top. Nest upgrade tonthe 2 valve headers and dual exhaust. I then installed all OEM replacement black leather piece by piece purchasing on Ebay as it showed up. I swapped the front suspension to accept the bigger GTS Brembo brakes calipers and rotors the rear is easier to do as itd just the Brembo calipers and rotors new pads all around. I added the GTS rear wing and the original GTS cup 2 rims. I swapped to the Euro H4 headlights. And now I'm onto the bodywork GTS two inch rear fender flares, and ive got the GTS rear bumper and reflector and all the lights and fog lights bumper internal suports, same thing on the front but its a S4 bumper same as the GTS The only thing I'm missing is the Euro front fenders. With the turn signals behind the front wheels. Im going to need to fabricate these from a pair if early euro front fenders because the late model fenders are very rare and not likely to show up on Ebay. All in a its a very extensive project borrowing original OEM parts from all years. Basically a GTS clone with 400 HP versus the 345 HP. In Black on Black. I also retaind all the original smoked amber glass from the 78-82 because I like it far better than the later green glass.
