Wow!! Every time I think about pulling the trigger on a boxster/cayman alarm bells ring and I bottle it 😮 My s2000 costs next to nothing to maintain in comparison ( but I get its not a porsche) In the meantime I just keep looking. Good to know that if I get one it needs a recent gearbox oil change. Good video

Definitely. Was amazed how much it was. The rest of the costs were as expected and reasonable. Even a calliper was ok cost wise. I started looking at mclaren 650 s prices the other day for when I change in a few years. Only 70k to buy but the running costs are too much for me to stomach.

All relative I guess but 70k for a car that retailed at 195k is a relative bargain.

How much to insure roughly??

Due to the insurance increase last year it was £550. I was expecting it to be £400. Will see what happens next year.

it can be a hassle but i tend to go to different specialists for different services required. Like i would have gone to the best priced garage for the gearbox oil change then had all the minor bits done elsewhere. obviously if the car is needed regularly then this might be an issue. The thing with DCT transmissions is that they hold anything from 5-8L of oil and being a hydraulic and lubricating fluid it is in the region of £30/L or more, the filters are anything from £50-200 so thats a chunk of the cost there, then the rest is labour, gaskets and then the calibration process, they also need the gearbox to be at a certain temp to drain and fill the oil as the viscosity then affects the volume reading. This procedure ranges for everything from mk5 golf DSG box, BMW DCT, Ferrari DCT like in 458 onwards, and Porsche PDKs. I tend to service mine early as the car gets driven relatively hard and if you get too many filings on the magnets the box can start to play up, so i would recommend every 20k-30k miles for longevity.

That’s too much hassle to be honest. What I will do in future though is research the prices more carefully before making a decision on which specialist to use. Thankfully there are 3-4 within an hour from where I live.

Ouch! The bleed nipples are common. Mines just been serviced and I’ve been advised one calliper will need doing. As the brakes are fine they recommended waiting until work on the brakes are needed. My pdk oil is due next time. I’ll start saving 😂

If you can wait I imagine having the calliper fixed will save a few hundred. The oil change was a shocker!

Surely if the air con failed 9 months after you took ownership then it's not necessarily the previous owner or dealer hiding anything? Annoying regarding the brake caliper though, but it does seem to be a common problem.

In this case I think it is. Both condensers were found to be corroded and leaking gas. The car aircon was refilled/serviced 9 months before I bought the car. It would have been clear the condensers were leaking. This is a known issue on these cars.
