Porsche has revealed the fastest Panamera ever and smashed yet another lap record at the Nürburgring, this time breaking the record for the luxury sedan class. The feat was achieved with the range-topping variant of the Porsche Panamera, the Turbo S E-Hybrid. With Porsche test driver Lars Kern at the wheel, this beast set a time of 7:24.17 - 5.64 seconds faster than the previous Panamera range-topper, the Turbo S, which set the record in July 2020, interestingly a few months later that record was beaten by the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S, shaving a hundredth from the Panamera's time.
The fastest and most powerful Panamera yet now features a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine producing 591 hp, paired with a single electric motor generating 187 hp. This setup is integrated into eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Together, they deliver a combined output of 771 hp and 737 pound-foot of torque, surpassing its predecessor by 81 hp and 96 pound-foot of torque. Interestingly, this power output is higher than the mechanically-related Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid, and identical to the new Bentley Continental GT Speed.
The healthy power boost enables the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid to complete the 0-60 mph sprint in 2.8 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 202 mph. These key performance figures represent improvements of 0.2 seconds in acceleration and 8 mph in top speed compared to the equivalent trim of the previous generation. Similar to the lesser E-Hybrid trims of the Panamera, the Turbo S benefits from a larger 25.9 kWh battery pack.
Visually, the Turbo S E-hybrid looks identical to the Turbo E-Hybrid, with the exception of the badging on the rear bumper. It features the same Turbo-specific body kit and 21-inch center-lock wheels. The Turbonite finish on the wheels, airblades, rear bumper strip, and interior accents/stitching sets the Turbo-badged Panameras apart from the rest.
