My 2.7 Cayman puffs smoke on start up too. Had it from 78000 till today at 116000 (5 years) as a daily and even with two AOS replacements still does it occasionally. Slightly embarrassing at times but never bothered me. Still one of the most fun cars i've owned. Love it.

Thanks very much for the videos! As a Cayman owner I would be interested to know the mileage of your car, what weight oil you use and the oil consumption. Also, do you miss an LSD in wet or otherwise greasy conditions on track? Cheers!

yes it could be signs of failing AOS (hopefully), but without wishing to be a scaremonger my 2007 987 2.7 boxster blew a headgasket on bank 2 (between cylinder bore 5 & 6) at around 75k miles = engine out, 1x head skim, new head gasket etc. it then ran fine to 108k miles when I sold it. To add, original water pumps prone to failure (plastic impeller) I believe replacement had aluminium impeller.

I'm aware of the AOS weakness, but the last time this happened was weeks if not months ago. When it's that infrequent, for me at least, that's no concern whatsoever.

Looks like AOS needs replacing, not too expensive and not serious
