I love the way Kieran articulated all his thoughts and findings, objectively and entirely free of any drama or hype and while exuding his love for his brilliant new Porsche. As a "gear head" Porsche owner myself I am sold on the Taycan, pretty much from his video alone. That for me speaks volumes of the quality of his content. Thank you for a superb presentation, and to your guest too for his valuable contribution.

Nick, thank you for this (and a big thank you to Kiran as well). Although it is great to see reviews from the well known motoring journalists, they always seem to end up debating whether or not electric cars make sense for petrolheads which makes it refreshing to hear the thoughts of an everyday petrolhead (someone who's job is not to talk about cars) on the Taycan. Porsche have done a fine job on the Taycan.

Very nice review! Very likeable people, and I love the enthusiasm of the new owner. Several of the features described as "clever" -- e.g., remembering the locations where you want to chassis height increased -- are also on the Tesla Model S/X, and have been for years. Another example is the ability to precool or preheat the car on a user schedule, but the Porsche version sounds as if it provides for more complex schedules. (Actually, many ECs, including modest ones, can preheat/precool.)

Loved the infotainment walkthrough because, even though I watched over 3 dozen reviews, I didn't see any mention of the two-finger slide for volume up/down and the finger slide for temperature. One of the common gripes people have with the infotainment is how slow it is to adjust these via touchscreen.

My parents never owned a car, and my grandparents never owned a car (I grew up in The Netherlands). But my neighbors back then had a Porsche 928S, and my grandfather always said: "I never want to own a car, but if I did, it would be a Porsche." He was well into his 60s when he said that. (He never did own one.) The Taycan is a spectacular car, and I'm very happy for its owner, who is clearly intelligent, knows what EVs are all about, and is very well-spoken. Please thank him for taking us along on this 'tour' and showing us his car. I'll now get back into my Audi A3 e-tron, which is a spectacular car in its own right, but very, VERY different. That is very impressive and cool, much better dashboard than the Tesla effort, or lack of. My only concern with all cars eventually having to be electric is, if you drive through any residential streets you will see cars parked everywhere and not necessarily parked outside of the owners house, it seems that the future of residential areas will be a spaghetti like maze of electrical cables going from people's houses to there cars, imagine the fun the lovely local children will have playing with those wires lol, if your cable is damaged and electrocutes somebody on a rainy day, will you be liable? So much work needs to be done to make an all ev world possible and safe. Great video, really enjoyed it.👍

@davidbryant2872

In general, you make a good point, there are infrastructure issues, especially for people who live in multi-family housing (apartments, condos). The specific problem of electrocuting someone with a damaged cable is avoidable if owners use the hardware made for charging EVs, which generally have ground fault detection built in. My Tesla Wall Connector, as an example, also will not apply power to the cable until and unless the car is connected and ready to charge (so the cable connectors are secure, not exposed) and unless the cable is free of faults. That is very reassuring in a shared parking lot like the one I use. But it could be a concern if owners rig up their own extra-long cables without proper safety circuitry.

@@davidbryant2872 cheers for the grounding info, i guess I imagine several street charging posts so as wherever people park overnight people can just plug in and swipe a bank card because some suburbs here have 3,4 or even 5 cars per household as well as people having to take work vans home with them too, I think it all maybe a bit messy to begin with but will be interesting to see how it all pans out. 👍

My only complaint about these new digital displays, and it's not only exclusive to this car but all modern cars, is the speedometer is far too small and is almost an afterthought when the engineers design the displays... I'd prefer to see a LARGE and clearly defined speedometer and in particular an ‘analogue’ style one that shows the speed in increments of tens... ie 10,20,30, etc. An analog dial, one with a moving needle, is much easier to see in your peripheral vision than a number due to the movement of the needle moving. In today's world of motoring, it's too easy to find yourself accidentally over the speed limit partly due to the quietness of cars but also due to how free-running cars are now. Because of the insulation from noise etc, it's too easy to not realise you're driving faster than you realise. That's why is like to see a speed limiter that keeps the driver within the road speed limits for the roads you're on.

I'd also like to see more honesty out of the electric car clan i.e. the dirty truth on lithium ion battery production and also, what to do with the batteries when they're no longer useful. At this point in time, I'm afraid these cars do more harm to the environment than what is being portrayed.

Car makers are still confused on a few matters. ONE: car keys should need only one button. The car is aware of your proximity and should adjust the button function depending on where in relation to the car you are standing (at the back, by the front, near a door, or far away) with custom commands and options based on user preference set within the Porsche app on your phone. Hold down for three seconds = do X. Press from far away = do Y, and so on. A person should never need to look at their car key to figure which button to press, as the key should have only one button. It should all work seamlessly and be customisable. Key simplified ✅ TWO: modern car keys should feature inductive charging like our toothbrushes have had for 30 years, and charging the key should be as simple as putting the key down in the car, with intelligent key battery management designed to enable the key to have a very long battery life over time. I.E. limiting charging of its decently sized lithium polymer battery to 80% of its battery capacity so the key never sits and 100% charge and ruins battery longevity. The driver will typically keep the key in their pocket, but should the key battery become low, they will be instructed to place it down in a specific place to charge its battery. If the key needs a new battery after several years the user will be notified. Key battery nonsense fixed ✅ THREE: HVAC functions for driver and passenger including heated and cooled seats should be two simple well made multi-function physical dials with circular OLED displays on them, similar in diameter to a round android smartwatch, or perhaps a little larger, with a nice knurled edge and smooth feel. Depressing any one of the two dials (whereby the dial would physically move in with a click feel) would switch between these functions with the change reflected on the OLED dial displays, so the user will know what turning the dial at any point will do, and what the current temperature or setting is. Again, software could allow customisability, so the user can add, remove or reorder how the various options appear in the succession of presses, and what the default setting will always be when they drive away each time. This simplifies the cabin layout while keeping those functions physical. HVAC simplicity and usability sorted ✅ FOUR: two magnetic Qi2 phone chargers up front. Two in the rear (one on the back of each seat). Simplifying HVAC to two dials provides plenty of room for two Qi2 chargers up front, and because Qi2 chargers are magnetic, seat backs are perfect for rear passengers. Fix phone charging in our cars for ALL passengers (not just the driver). USB-C ports should be dessert, not the main course. All passengers should be able to stick their phone magnetically onto Qi2 chargers and have them charge perfectly every time without need to mess around with cables. Phone charging ✅ FIVE: Tesla.... saving money on those turn-signal stalks is ruining our experience, and making it less safe. Turn-signal stalks should frankly be required by law. Add them back.

Is this car good for someone who drives a lot everyday in the city?

I love this guy’s enthusiasm for the car, but I question his option choices. There are three essential options for the Taycan that I would choose above flashier wheels and Carmine red. 1. The larger performance plus battery. 2. Sports chrono - it gives you the Sport Plus driving mode plus the driving mode dial on the steering wheel. 3. Folding mirrors.

Folding mirrors are an option? Seriously? Even my 5 yr old Passat has those.

Such an impressive vehicle. I certainly consider myself a bit of petrol head and love the sound of any sweet sounding combustion engine, indeed as also an aviation enthusiast what can possibly sound better than say a Rolls-Royce Merlin in full flow! Having said that where cars are concerned you just have to accept that in the Taycan Porsche have totally nailed it. I am actually onto my third petrol engined Porsche so would confess to being more than a little bias toward the brand but who could possibly deny what a simply marvellous car this is. Porsche have been masterful in embracing this technology whilst retaining all the sporting heritage of the brand.

Know the feeling!! Went from an E63 to a Model S 100. Won't go back! Great video! This guy plainly loves his car and this is a better demo than you get in a Porsche dealer!!

@@MOTAHOLIC Absolutely. Might consider a Taycan next time, just the ease of charging with a Tesla is still a significant pull factor especially on longer journeys. The Porsche though is much more the kind of car we (as European buyers) expect at this kind of price point when compared with the Tesla and particularly when coming from an AMG etc. Electric is addictive and the quiet on long journeys, particularly with Autopilot means you are much less tired when you arrive. He's not right about Tesla handling though, there's a decent chassis hiding under there, it's not a point and squirt machine.

Lovely car but I am amazed he didn't go for the bigger performance battery as that's a no brainer on these 4S models

maybe he didnt need to go on long trips. Most people wouldn't do more than 100ks a day.

Solar panels on the roof and you have a vehicle that doesn't cost anytime to drive. This a beautiful vehicle. Happy holidays to all.

Solar panels are not efficient enough to add but a few miles per day. Maybe someday they will be.

Interesting video. I read recently that the Taycan is the best selling Porsche here in Sweden right now. A dream car in many ways.
