I’ve owned a one-year-old Taycan GTS Sport Turismo from new, and it’s simply the best car I own or have ever owned. Cannot wait until the facelift GTS is launched.

Great review covering a lot of bases, great engineering as always. For competitors, what about the Ioniq 5N you raved about recently? I know not the same market place, badge nor efficiency and not as much sportscar.... roomy as a Cayenne in fact... but both appeal to driving enthusiasts. I know quite a few owners that were cross shopping* these or even owned one before. Also had a 997/991 owner in mine that was impressed by the car and the build.... *I was against a 2nd hand sport turismo, but really needed the added rear space of the 5 N, as you rightly point out the Taycan is realistically a 4-seater.

Great review, Bryan. Appreciate the nod to the RWD, fast enough edition. Even the base battery is plenty, when you consider the charge speeds. You shouldn't drive to Scotland without a stop so why waste battery material. I know the bigger battery protects resale, but we shoukd all be carefully choosing a forever car and driving them into the ground to make motoring closer to sustainable.

I agree. But the car has to obey. I own a c63 touring with 62000 miles on it and albeit running perfectly smooth, i am scared of the costs coming at me soon (inspections, brakes, ...) and i am praying nothing breaks.

I have the 2023 Cross Turismo with rear axel steering. Just great for gravel roads, snow, alpine roads and long distance motorway drives. The cornering is awesome and the stability at high speeds (German Autobahn) is reassuring.

Great review Brian. The range increase is a big factor and huge depreciation just means there are great deals on 6-12 month old gen1 cars. Does feel like a “proper” Porsche. Your initial cross turismo rev was a factor in test driving one. So thank you

Thanks to its insane depreciation, it will be my first Porsche ever. I can easily afford the use, tyres, inspections etc but never the 160k price tag. But 60 to 70 i can do. To get the best car I will have ever owned

I got the Etron GT two years ago. Was a toss up between it and the Taycan. I think the Etron looks better but my choice was swayed by the C&S option on the Etron GTwhich made it cheaper than the Taycan with the same options. I’ll be renewing next year and am going to have the Taycan this time. Just got a change, as I’ve loved the Etron GT

I was fortunate to drive a Sports Turismo recently. It was a year old example so not the revised model but I cannot say I was wowed. Ok I was driving it very carefully but it didn’t feel to have the instant performance that is the characteristic of most powerful EVs. It also was a rather wide car which mars your confidence to thread it down a windy road. I was rather surprised with some of the equipment omissions on what was well optioned car. Notably it didn’t have adaptive cruise control and the SatNav was not the best in the business. Possibly worth considering as a used buy, although you will have to really do your research on the huge number of options to ensure you can find a car that has the best value combinations, but this is probably a car for a person who has a garage of different cars for different purposes.

Great review, very knowledgable. It's a shame it'll mostly be bought as a company car. You'd have to be unhinged to fund one of these as a private purchase, given the catastrophic residuals. I was mildly surprised you only gave one line to this thorny issue, to be honest. Currently, on Autotrader, there are no less than 659 Taycans for sale, one of which is 3 years old with 30k on the clock, up for......£43k. That's class leading levels of depreciation; even the Audi e-Tron doesn't plummet the same, which is all a bit odd. I'm not sure that the enormous improvements in the Taycan - range, especially, shall equate to stronger residuals for this revised version. Alternatively, if it does, it could mean the first version residuals just keep going down further/ quicker. The days of a 30k Taycan might not be too far away.....which is a hell a lot of car for the money.

Iv just had one on test from Porsche uk Sidcup and the 4s was phenomenal- but it’s too expensive new , as a normal guy buying it ( not for business use ) it’s too expensive to own considering depreciation from new , I’d possibly buy one from Porsche approved used but im still concerned about its residual value once Iv owned one . Porsche engineering and quality is a good step above bmw/ merc - biggest surprise for me with the Taycan test drive was just how low the car felt , it’s not a bmw 5 series rival it drives like a 911 revival .

The comment from Markymark suggests that he'd really like to be able to afford such a car and sounds a touch bitter that perhaps he cannot. Most people who buy cars at this price point don't worry about small things such as depreciation. Mere bagatelle. They just enjoy their hard earned and they'll have plenty more cash where that came from. Good for them. Jealousy is so 'yesterday'.

It’s a refresh, not a redesign. You’re not going to get a drastic change! On top of that, Porsche don’t do drastic changes! When they do a complete redesign, it will be more in the interior. Exterior will still maintain its shape with changes to front and back, but it will be unmistakably a Taycan!
