A day by day look at the Port Colborne Water Tower Demolition.
Built back in 1945-46 the Port Colborne water tower has stood proudly over the City of Port Colborne skyline for over 70 years.
It was built to store fresh water as the City of Port Colborne grew.
As of 2017 the water tower's lifespan was almost up and it has been struggling to provide Port Colborne's needs for water storage so a new water tower was built with much more capacity to meet the growing city's demands.
Besides water the water tower served other purposes such as navigation for ships entering the Welland Canal, and modern-day communication needs.
Demolition began on the water tower on March 11th 2019 and the tower was finally laid to rest on March 26th 2019 at 4:12pm.
The property the water tower sat on will be sold off by the Niagara Region.
