I really appreciate how thoroughly you explain your process, including your oh-oops moments! I am looking forward to hearing how the one-hose AC works in our Tennessee summer heat and humidity. I've heard comparisons between the single hose and double hose portable ACs, so this is an interesting review. ~ Kir (and Ron) in Middle Tennessee

If it's not a dual hose it will have absolutely zero cooing capacity
@GimpyCamper

I disagree. Yes dual hose is better but last week it was 86 and humid when I was working on a project in the camper. I turned the generator on and ran this unit and there was definitely more than zero cooling capacity. I agree they are better units and more efficient but this definitely adds quite a bit of cooling capacity
@iair-conditiontheoutsideai3076
2 жыл бұрын
@@GimpyCamper it will feel cold in front of the unit no doubt about that. But it is impossible for this to cool the space. All the cold air generated is used to cool the condenser and then exhausted out the hose. Not only that but then because you are expelling air outside it needs to be replaced because you cannot live in a vacuum chamber. So what happens is hot air is literally getting sucked in from the outside through any little crack or crevice. You need to DIY a second hose to cool the condenser to have this not happen.

We use 2 of those portable air conditioner in our house in Indiana. They are more energy efficient than the central air. Our electric bill went way way down after we went to the portable air conditioners. They are truly amazing. We bought ours at Lowes and they are somewhat quiet

@HappyPlaceCamping

@@sharkbait8574 We have a single vent. But we also have it set up so that the intake will pull air in from the outside rather than trying to recirculate the air inside the trailer. We created an insulated box, so to speak, with screened vent holes in the floor to exhaust and intake.

Great video. I have a 13ft Boler and installed a portable AC under the sink area. Unfortunately after 3 months something broke from all of the bumps/harsh drives (my trailer bounces a lot due to its light weight). When I buy a new one I plan on putting it in my car and then setting it up at the campsite haha - thanks for sharing!

I’m going to be doing a video on that shortly. Yes. We love this thing. The only part I don’t like is that the water drain isn’t easy to use on this to drain the water. The only change I made was that I lined the outside of the plywood with reflectix because it used to let a lot of cold through in the winter

I have a 50 amp trailer, if I hit a site that has 30, I use my splitter. They make a cord that plugs into the 30amp slot and the 15amp 110v, and combine into a 50amp female plug. You plug your 50amp into the adapter and you have 45amps
@GimpyCamper
3 жыл бұрын
Just to clarify 45 amps is not close to the same amperage you get on 50 amps, because it’s actually 100 amps (2 50 amp legs). That being said I don’t even use 50 amps when it’s available… I hate messing with the huge cord and I don’t need it. I’ve heard a lot of people do have problems with those splitters activating the gfi outlets but I’ve never used one

@@GimpyCamper I understand that, but I have a portable ac and I can plug it up to the inside without having to run a cord directly to the 15amp 110 plug when on 30amp service. I have the capability when on 50amp service in the heat of west texas summer though. I'm a full time rvers and have run a splitter and directly to 30, the splitter is waaaaaay better.

You need to use a heavy duty extension cord, but if you get technical the whole camper cord is an extension cord. You just have to be careful because yes, it's not as intended.

There are only two things I don't like about it... 1. I didn't think the window would need to be open when running the heat pump, but it does blow cool air through it. #2 there is no cut off on the drain line for the internal water containment, so it spills everytime I have to empty it. I think I'm going to put an elbow coming off the drain with a shutoff valve on it.

I also think I'm going to have to try to insulate this somehow, because I used it when it was cold and you could almost feel the cold air coming through the plywood.

@@GimpyCamperWe have one for our toy hauler. The garage converts to a bedroom and hardly gets any cool air from the 13,500 Dometic . When we tuned it on the front gets a few degrees warmer due to the exhaust negating the inside pressure. Hot air was coming in here and there. We converted ours to dual tube- problem solved. As far as power consumption, ours is a 50 amp service, and we use 2 generators when no power is available when running the portable air. Seal your camper, check your ducting and outlets for leaks and tape up the inside or your roof a/c per other videos. The best part of having a portable a/c is it can be moved from one part of the camper to another or loaned to a neighbor when theirs breaks. Our 10' garage will get down to 67 degrees easily with portable cycling 1/3 of the time.
