Ported in a vehicle is a no go, comp is only slightly better in a vehicle.

@@bbazzracing instead of muzzle blast coming out of one direction, it’s coming out of two/three. Now it’s interacting with whatever is directly above the gun as well as in front of the gun. Not really safe for a defensive weapon. Super fun to shoot them though!

@@civicsr2cool I mean I guess. But honestly, that would be the least of my concerns in a self-defense situation. If the ports are able to make the 40 cal flatter and reduce recoil I think the pros outweigh the cons. Shooting from the hip might be an issue, but you can cant the gun slightly sideways to avoid the blast

People always say things about ported guns that no one would care about in a life or death scenario. If you’re scared about the louder sound ok cool…. Would you rather be dead or alive with slightly worse hearing. Recoil is unnecessary and I want as little recoil as possible and as many advantages as possible against the bad guy who already has the jump on me. If you are scared about the blast and potential shrapnel that may come from a ported gun then ok cool train to accommodate for that, cant your gun if shooting from retention and train for that. The pros outweigh the cons. It’s just a preference of what you want at that point

Ive seen videos of people sacrificing their arms and face for science by shooting a ported gun up close in retention. The ports, regardless of porting type (EDM, milled, position, w/e) - they all cut chunks off the projectile and copper and lead spalling emits from the ports. It can permanently blind you. Comps have spacing away from the bullet path, the bullet doesn't touch it. So no danger there. I carry a micro9 with a 1.5in dual port comp. It's the flatest gun I have. The extra 1.5in doesn't bother Mr as I carry at 3 o'clock

I feel like either has the potential of injuring me when in a scuffle or firing from retention. I also hear they are much louder. I'd have to buy a new barrel and slide for ports so I don't void my warranty.

I like my compensators but for a carry just do yourself a favor and keep the smallest slide you can for easy carry.

I shoot my performance center in 45 wonderfully. Ported from the factory and has very manageable recoil. I feel as though I shoot it better than my 9mm...very accurate. Yeeeeeeee🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾

For me personally I see no reason to spend extra money on porting or compensators especially on a small carry gun.

Got the radian ramjet/afterburner combo on my G19. Very fun shooter. The military discount helped the wallet lot though.

@@user-dq9pq8uv4e no it’s a well known fact. Counter balances the weight of the grip which helps with the keel principle. I appendix a G26 in a 19 holster. Lots of guys appendix G19 in 17 and 34 length holster for this exact reason.

@@Kh2456 Ah. Ok. Now it makes sense. For better balance inside the holster. I'm sorry, I was thinking "Why do you want a longer barrel pressing further into your junk when you sit down?" Or taking those fractions of a second to clear the belt on the draw. But ok, no... I get it now. Yeah, comfort when carrying is really important. Especially RIGHT THERE. Thank you very much for taking the time to explain your reasoning to me. 🙂👍

@@Kh2456 Ok sorry to double post. But I'm asking this as somebody who makes sheaths, and is researching how to get into kydex holsters. In your opinion, and the opinions of the people commenting here.... would a holster that you could add weights to, at the bottom of it, to act as that counter-weight... alleviate the need for the longer barrel, or longer holster? Thus getting rid of the two problems that I mentioned just before?
@Kh2456

@@user-dq9pq8uv4e most people attach a wedge to the bottom of the holster near the muzzle to help counter balance the keel principle. The most effective combo is a longer holster with a wedge. Never tried weights so not sure how effective they’d be. Most high end kydex holster company’s make the muzzle 0.5”-1” longer stock for this reason. Many companies offer to customize more length as requested by the customer. Typically 1” longer than the muzzle is the sweet spot for appendix.
