Great job, Dave! I have fallen in love with Portesham. So, does the "Portes" part mean "Port"? I studied Old English a lifetime ago, so I couldn't make out what King Cnut (Knut?) wrote. Ne'erthalees, I thank ye for yer woik. (Pretty bad, I know.)

It is a village that is easy to fall in love with :) I don't know what the 'Portes' part means; I did read somewhere that it's suspected to come from the name of an important person/family that lived in the area back in the mists of time.

I didn't know he used to live in the old vicarage. I know at one point he lived up on the ridgeway above Beaminster; might still live there. I remember once, about 9 year ago now, he was in the queue behind me at Beaminster Co-Op. I didn't like to speak to him, didn't want to disturb the poor bloke whilst he was out shopping.

It certainly is a pretty little village. Would've been nicer if there wasn't so many cars around but they're a necessary evil nowadays.
