Observation:
I'm not just basing this observation on what I have seen in the private lesson. I'm using what I have already seen in our group practices. He is a part of the Collegiate class, moves well, can serve with power and change of direction and type, and will play high school variety-level tennis.
We are working on forehand production with 3 key points of focus.
1. Reducing strain on the arm(most important)
2. Be more effective on the down-the-line forehand
3. Taking off the rise
00:00 Observe
00:30 Closing Off forehand hand feed
The goal for the player: focus on contact being out in front, body weight going forward while attacking the ball with a right foot measuring spacing, finishing with left foot in front, and using hip rotation as the generator his pace.
Context: I created markers on the court for his footwork as he is going up the line.
Goal for me: Watching how he finishes with his contact. Make sure he is bringing his arm more in front, and the rotation of his hips is more visible. Giving him a target also helps me see his problem-solving skills
01:00 Racket feeds the same environment
02:00 Day 2 Working more on positioning. I had him step back more to kinda force him to move forward. I closed it with feeding in the beginning, then moved to open(rally-based) and more static focus.
02:49 Day 3 Was taking it off the rise, I forced him to hover the line more.
This one took me by surprise. He took a month off to go to Europe, but he stayed active. He was doing very well with this skill, so then after open but static-focused hitting, we completely opened it up to a baseline game of 7 at the end. You can see a change his comfortably in his movements from start to finish. His contact is more in front, and he is using his hips more. Down the line is now a much easier shot for him, and he isn't in pain anymore.
