This is such a diamond in music history. Came here by watching a documentary about the best covers of ABBA. There will never be a better cover than this one. The simplicity, dark, bass sound gives this lyrics the meaning why they ever where wrote for.

I thought ABBA's version is really smart, because it reminds me of neglect and abuse and how those things are often obscured to outsiders. So the pop melody functions as a cover-up for the meaning of the lyrics, just like how women often hide their wounds with make-up, long hair and sunglasses. If you'd hear this as someone's ringtone, you might think "that's funny...", it's a subtle calling out for help without getting caught because "it's just a silly pop song", right? This cover is nice, but it doesn't really add anything to the lyrics. It's just sad.
@TheBloodiac

@@DarkAngelEU Interesting point of view. I never thought about it that way.
@weskingston264
3 жыл бұрын
@@DarkAngelEU I see your point of view, for sure. It's like "Every Breath You Take". A really, really dark song dressed up in something light and bouncy. I do adore this cover, though. It's the other side of the same coin. It might not 'add' anything to the lyrics, but it's an interpretation that takes the meaning of the lyrics and lays it bare. It's basically the sound of someone who HAS hidden that abuse and neglect from the world for far too long, and has finally torn out that romanticism and the rose-colored glasses are not just taken off but crushed beneath their feet. It's this longing and desperation for all the joy and beauty that love brings into a person's life, and the realization that somewhere along the way it's completely slipped through their fingers.
