I used to always just bring water, and that was it. Then I realized I needed to start carrying spares tubes because too much road debris. Then I started wearing a heart rate monitor when my rides went over 20-30 miles. Then I needed a cycling computer, plus taillights & headlights so I wouldn't get run over. And now it's like 30 minutes of prep just to get on the damn bike.

It's only funny until you get old, & then it's no-joke deadly serious, lol. In the realm of the elders, there's no such thing as 'spontaneously going out' anymore. Going for a short leisurely walk? It takes me half an hour to pack up the essentials including snack & extra sunscreen, plus I need to pee three times before I get out the door. Even a trip to the grocery store has somehow turned into some kind of adventure/roadtrip/journey that requires an overnight bag "just in case".
