Porto, Portugal's second-biggest city, is a mix of old-world charm and modern energy. It's known for its distinctive architecture, with medieval alleys winding around colorful houses covered in intricate azulejos. The historic Ribeira district is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a picturesque waterfront and bustling cafes. Porto is inseparable from its iconic Dom Luís I Bridge, which connects the historic center with the bustling Vila Nova de Gaia district. The city is synonymous with port wine, and visitors can explore centuries-old wine cellars and sample the renowned Douro wines. Beyond the riverside, Porto reveals its cultural depth through landmarks like the Livraria Lello, a stunning bookstore with a storied history.
Porto is really a charming city and unfortunately we only had one day to spend there (or even less, if you count the rain 😵). Despite that, I'd say we were lucky to catch the sunset on the Ponte Luis I bridge and managed to squeeze in all the beautiful spots in 1 day. I think three days would be ideal for exploring the city at a leisurely pace, and you could also take a day trip to the Douro Valley.
