My mother bought me a Foster art book for Christmas when I was about 13. It was titled "how to paint a portrait" by Helen Van Wyk. It had her pic on the back page and she was about 25-30 years old...I fell in love with her and her teaching. I've watched every video she's made. I'm 80 now...and I still love her...and have always learned from her unique style of teaching.

What a really wonderful story-thank you very much for sharing your experience. It's incredible how Helen’s teachings have made such a lasting impact on you after all these years. She had a way of connecting with her students, not just through her knowledge of painting but through her genuine passion for teaching. It’s great to hear that her lessons have stayed with you, and I’m sure she would be touched to know how much she continues to inspire. Thanks for posting your story and supporting the channel.

Yes, this is one of her earlier lessons, before she became ill. These early lessons are wonderful and full of vigor and energy. Her later lessons do show a more tired Helen but as I'm sure you know, she continued to produce content for us to use and learn by. Thanks for the support.

Helen's the real deal! Love her shows. I can't say. I care too much for the full screen interruptions with a beep and a replay of a segment.
@HelenVanWyk
Күн бұрын
We appreciate the feedback. Those breaks are chapter titles, and the 40ms beep is a sync mark. The replay should only last a couple of seconds-anything longer is a mistake. These features allow KZitem to do a few different things, like placing ad breaks at points that don't disrupt the viewing experience too much. They also help viewers quickly find a segment they want to watch again. If you look around the description, you'll see chapters and timestamps. Clicking a timestamp will jump to that chapter. The same goes for the timestamps in the transcript; you can search the transcript, click on the timestamp, and the video will jump to the exact spot that matches the words in the transcript. For future videos, We'll review the intensity of the beep and try to lower its volume. We'll look at shortening the chapter pages, but at 4 seconds, they are already pretty short. Again, we appreciate the feedback. Thanks.

Helen has a unique teaching style, and different people have their own reasons for enjoying her lessons. Some appreciate the almost constant commentary during her teachings (though I’ve heard from a few who feel she talks too much). Others simply respect her vast knowledge of painting and how effortlessly she imparts it while teaching. I love her too.

@Higgon Thanks for the question. From the video description: Please note that the model's face has been pixelated to protect their privacy, allowing the focus to remain on Helen Van Wyk's portrait painting techniques. We appreciate your understanding and respect for the model's confidentiality.

Around 2::30 the sketch looks like ta cartoon head smiling and looking to the left
@HelenVanWyk

Yes, it does. Almost like a robot head. I think Helen uses this "blockhead" look on most of her portrait lessons. Thanks for the comment.
@jamesoliver505

I think you missed what I am referring to. Look at the facial hairline as though it were the eyes and it looks like a cartoon man with head up grinning to the left with big nose. Of course if you look at the two parallel lines for the eyes it looks like the man she is painting. Although that kind of looks like a lion in in abstract way. I love Helen Van Wyk. I remember watching her decades ago and still learn from watching her videos today. Thanks.

Looks like your artistic eye is more refined than mine-he just looks like a blockhead to me. But hey, that’s what makes art fun! Thanks for sharing and enjoy the other lessons.
