Sergey Lobovikov was born on June 19, 1870, in the Vyatka province , in the family of a rural deacon . He received a four-year education in a rural school, then in a religious school. Having been orphaned early, at the age of 14 he was given to study for a merchant and photographer P. G. Tikhonov in the provincial city of Vyatka . Lobovikov worked for him for 5 years under a contract without payment for labour.
In 1892-1893 passed military service, from which he was later discharged for health reasons.
Returning to Vyatka in 1894, he rented a small room and photographic equipment and proceeded to open a small photographic shop.
In 1899, he participated in a photographic competition in St. Petersburg and won a bronze medal for his works.
In 1900, Lobovikov embarked on a trip to Western Europe and visited Germany, Belgium, France, Austria. In the same year, Lobovikov took part in the World Exhibition in Paris showcasing his work - “Peasant Life and Work of a Peasant in Russia”. For this, he also received a bronze medal.
As his reputation grew, Lobovikov won further awards and accolades. In 1913 he was elected an honorary member of the Russian Photographic Society.....
He died in Leningrad in November 1941 during a bombing raid.
