I was a member of a church choir a few years ago and we had an organist/director who is one of the greatest musicians I've ever known. The thing was, he was completely deadpan and while he had the potential for a great sense of humor, he was completely dedicated to the music and almost never smiled. Long story short, I showed him this and he couldn't stop laughing.

@@Gaesschenwell, today I learned. From Wikipedia: “Bryars was interested more in experimenting with the nature of music than forming a traditional orchestra. Instead of picking the most competent musicians he could find, he encouraged anyone to join, regardless of talent, ability or experience. The only rules were that everyone had to come for rehearsals and that people should try their best to get it right and not intentionally try to play badly.”
