On the afternoon of January 4th of 2024, a revenue service train had its brakes pulled and had to be taken out of service. It and another (1) train with passengers on it then made it to the 96th Street station and collided on a switch just north of the stop.
As a result, the entire 7th Avenue Line was impacted with (2) trains running via the Lexington Avenue Line with (1) and (3) trains running in two sections:
(1) Line:
1. Van Cortlandt Park-242nd Street to 96th Street
2. Times Square-42nd Street to South Ferry
(3) Line:
1. Harlem-148th Street to 96th Street
2. Times Square-42nd Street to New Lots Avenue
On the night on January 6th of 2024, the derailed sets would make their moves back to 207th Street Yard after being taken care of and coupled with work moves to ensure safe travel north. In this video, you'll see most of the trains make their way to the facility except for one of the sets which moved around midnight.
Consists:
(N) Locomotive 59 + RD410 + Locomotive 74 + 2271-2275 + 2415 (S)
(N) Locomotive 81 + RD416 + Locomotive 51 + 2210-2206 (S)
