When I hear of "massive California blaze" I think of the one that was a few miles from my house and over 400,000 acres...not 15,000 acres. Sht, we just had a 19,000 one about 3 weeks ago.

Twenty two years ago the company I worked for was selling acoustic spectrum analyzers to the Erickson who was building Sky Cranes (they were actually rebuilding old helicopters to turn to Sky Crane for firefighting, construction and logging). We got to visit their factory when they were still in southern Oregon. It was an awesome experience.

Got to say I’m jealous how you got close man! That’s amazing! I have flight radar and I was seeing so many tankers and helicopters respond to that fire! Must’ve been a pretty sick air show! I work here In Paso Robles and I see the air tankers and CH-47 Chinook take off! Not just the S-2T’s but also the Large Air Tankers! Take a look on my channel, I’ve posted some vids of fire aircraft. Great video again 🤙🏼

where were the air tractors fitted with floats for scooping water? They can make many many runs to a fire quicker that a black hawk with a suction pickup.

@@robertfrederick9061 What is an air tractor with floats? Do you mean the super scooper? And the first helicopter was a Skycrane not a Blackhawk. The twin rotor was a Chinook.

Los Angeles County Fire Dept Cal Fire and now Orange County Fire Authority use the Fire Hawk CH-60 a variant of the Army Black Hawk Navy Sea hawk Coast Guard Jay Hawk Air Force Pave Hawk. The Sky Crane is a private company similar to Coulson Unical with the Chinook. Reason for helicopters there are small lakes pools streams they can draft from. The tractors a SET Single Engine Tanker like Dusty from planes fire and rescue wouldn't have the distance to scoop. At times there have been the Canada air bombers. They need to go back to the airport. Like the large aircraft. C-130 S-2 Tanker and such.

@robertfrederick9061 I don't believe there are any SEAT's under contract in California. I recall something about certifications specific to CA. So many CA fires don't have the luxury of large impoundments to reload. They get used and are certified out of state for initial attack and they seem to keep plenty busy!
