I just completed 20 weeks of radiation therapy after my lumpectomy. Nothing to it. My oncotype score was low, so I don't need chemo. I was really lucky. I'll never feel comfortable calling myself a "cancer survivor." Dealing with my broken tibia was more difficult and took a lot longer.

No masks are not used for radiation to the breast. You will be placed in a position with your arms above your head, but will not be held in or in an enclosed space. I hope that helps alleviate your fears.

I have IDC stage 2 HER positive. I had 3 months of chemo/ targeted therapy . Now receiving Kadcyla. I had a Lumpectomy, no cancer in lymph nodes, microscopic cancer left. My tumor was the size of a small grape, below my left breast, where the band of my bra sits. I am 71 year old and doctor suggested I get 30 rounds of radiation. I also am taking hormone blocker. Thinking radiation is overkill. What is your opinion ?

Is Lumpectomy safe? I have also done lumpectomy in last November. After that 8 chemo have done and 30 radiation. Now I feel a small size lumph nearby the surgery. I m worrying abt that. Pls tell me is ther any chance to come back immediately after radiation?

Yes, lumpectomy is safe. Seventy percent of all breast surgeries are a lumpectomy. If you feel something near your surgery site, you should call your doctor so he or she can examine the area. A rapid recurrence immediately after treatment is rare.

I am 70 years old and just had a lumpectomy. I’ve been told I can choose between having either radiation or take an estrogen blocker for 5 years. You refer to a video about estrogen blockers but I can’t find it. Can you send a link? Many thanks!

Hi. I don’t see that video anymore either. Im not a medical oncologist, so my expertise is really for radiation. The side effects of anti-estrogen depend on the type of anti-estrogen. I would expect they would recommend an aromatase inhibitor like Anastrazole. You can look up side effects of that medication. Generally, hot flashes, potential bone loss (osteoporosis), weight gain, joint pain, mood changes, vaginal dryness.

Why use a hormone blocker on women that already have low hormone levels? Why can someone 70 and over forgo radiation?

Can you post the link of your video for the women over 70 who pass on radiation if they are taking anestrozol or tamoxifen?

This video was very informative. I had triple negative invasive breast cancer, stage 1, and had localized radiation directly to the area where the cancer was. Can you talk about this type of radiation?
